A WOMAN has been airlifted to hospital after becoming trapped in a long-drop outdoor toilet in central Queensland.

The woman, 65, was climbing off a trailer when she fell backwards into the 2.5-metre-deep open hole on a property at Wartburg, a spokeswoman for the AGL Action Rescue Helicopter said in a statement.

The Gladstone woman suffered a fractured leg in the tumble and spent a number of hours down the hole before being found by her husband.

Emergency services managed to get the woman out of the hole in what was described as a "very difficult extraction".

The woman was airlifted to Bundaberg Base Hospital in a stable condition.

When I was deployed and working in a not-too-pleasant country, we used to have these portaloos that were pretty much just a seat that opened up and then it was straight down into a large amount of blue liquid and, well, the other un-required nourishment that people would leave there. Often you would get an amount of "splash-back", which I was always totally grossed out by.

BUT - when I would finish the job and the associated paperwork,  I would often think to myself, if my wallet were to fall into the "poo-soup", how much money would have to be in it before I would retrieve it. Now I'm talking up to your elbow in poo-soup here. . . . . .

Something for you all to ponder. . . . .

This will put a whole new spin on "Putting your money where your mouth is". No more gripping notes between my teeth while fishing around in my pockets for my keys at the servo.

Had a few accidents when I was on the sewer crew a few years back, some not very nice and some worse.

I recall rodding a line upstream and was down a 3 metre shaft, just poked the rod in the upstream inlet and released the blockage. A gurgle quickly changed into a 150 dia stream of sewerage and as quick as I was climbing the ladder it was around my midriff when I reached the top. I enjoyed that shower just after that.

Another time I caught up with the boss on the side of the road wearing nothing but the paper overalls and informing him I won't using the boat in the sewer tank anymore to clean the rag from the aerators.

Still I don't think any of these would match falling into a long drop, poor lady :'(

Hi,
as a 7 year old at Grandma's place in the country for Summer holidays I was roused for chasing the turkeys. They were such fun to chase.
No one was looking, and they were nearby, - couldn't resist.
Chased them round the back and they flew a bit over some long green grass.
Now I hadn't quite mastered the flying bit - so running it was for me.
Unfortunately the long grass was thriving on an open sewer trench which engulfed me entirely.
I was unceremoniously stripped and hosed down on the driveway and dumped in a hot bath laced with copious amounts of dettol.
cheers
