Hey Campers,

No, this isn't the usual "what kind of music do you listen to camping" thread.  I'm interested in those that make their own music ... camp site muso's as such.

You see, I've just been given a 40+ year old guitar (in need of desperate TLC and soon repairs ... darn handle is leaving the base) so am going to teach myself to play ... which could be interesting.   ;D  Storage whilst travelling would be the only issue so as not to damage it any further.

So I wondered how many others take a musical instrument with them?

My old club had 4 old blokes that with 590234802948098 beers under their belt thought they were the travelling wilburys.. they pulled out the instruments, 40% went to be.. then started, and 90% of those left went to bed. It sucked.

It was so annoying that by accident someone tripped over the bongo drum, and it ended up in the fire pit 25 feet away without bouncing...

I always wanted to play, but never stuck with it.

Give it ago I reckon it would be good fun... My son has been accepted to a scholarship kinda thing next yr at EMC in acting/music/stuff, so I started lookin round for tutorials - youtube is your friend.. it has EVERYTHING

The handle is leaving the base ;D
Or the neck is seperating from the body i think u mean........
U can learn a whole bunch of songs by learning 3 chords.......a few drinks ..throw in a bit of lead work and every one will think u are a guitar legend. :cup:

Plenty of beers eggs and beans for tea and i make allot of trumpeting kind of noises around the campfire but don't get to close to the flames  ;D

Hairs

Afternoon Kit_e,
Good onya for having a go.
I've fooled around with a harmonica, only at home  :-[
Couldn't read music to save my self  ;D
A little OT, But I was toying with the idea of Swaggers bringing their guitars, harmonicas and other musical instruments and the like to the National meet next year.
Hey Snow, you gonna bring your guitar, We enjoyed listening to you at Wilmington.
I reckon there would be plenty of talented Swaggers out there and sitting around a camp fire listening to you guys would just be tops   8)
Kit_e, hope you can get to join us at the National meet, would be great if you brought your guitar along. You've got 12 months to get your act together  ;D

Hey gibbo301,
You mean like this?
Remind me be not to camp too close to you  ;D

Learning to play an instrument is 1% talent and 99% perseverance's  ??? ???...depending on where we go I,ll often pull the guitar out and belt out a few John Williamson songs around the campfire 8) 8), the more you do it the more confidence you,ll get :cup: :cup: you may even be able to trade of your talent for a few free nights  ;D ;D just remember the muso,s golden rule...(it only takes 3 to 4 chords to  play just about every song ever written).

Hey Kite_kat good for you. I have just taken the plunge and bought a guitar thinking would be nice to learn and take camping. So good luck I have sore fingers and only been learning for a week. Having fun so far. Hope to see you at the national meet next year.

hi Everyone.
Well I am fortunate to be married to an extremely talented husband who serenades me most nights out camping on a low D whistle which is the instruement used in the movie Titanic in the soundtrack. It is haunting and mellow, he usually plays mainly celtic music and played most nights on our three month trip through the Kimberley. The positive comments were very rewarding for him. I might add he never takes his bagpipes as they too intrusive ( he is an excellent player)

Yeah, Yeah ... that's what I said LOL!

Thanks everyone for the "U Go Girls" ... I've just got the guitar back from The Man and he says it's expensive to repair ... oh well.  I'll keep practising till it's dead and about the same cost to repair.

Love to hear those bagpipes Barb!   Bugger the neighbours!

Yeah mate, we got told the same thing about the cost to repair.

I went out and bought a really nice stand for $20.00 and the guitar now forms a part of our furniture.

Live pipes and drums always makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up.........fantastic sound......... :cup:
The sound of bag pipes echoing through the bush would be absolutely wonderful.....for a while, anyway..... ;D ;D

I played trumpet for many years, but sadly, they don't go too well around a camp fire.
It's a bit hard to sing along while playing one........

LOL.... i remember i re-strang my Strat with 13's cause i wanted tone like Stevie Ray Vaughan...i already had some callouses on my finger tips but trying to do a 2 step bend with "fence wire" was different ;D
On the subject of callouses...SRV tore one off before a show so his guitar tech Rene Martinez is rumoured to have used a razor to cut his off and glue it on to SRV's finger so the show could go ahead.
