Lost this has a chassis and low-range (based on Colorado) so is like a Challenger or Pathy, not a Kluger or Captiva (if you get what I mean)

The rumour from my missus who works for a Ford dealership (she sells bucket loads of Rangers) is that Ford have been planning a SUV version of the Ranger for some time.

That's 'cause it's a US car. Chevy Trailblazer. Same as the other big auto makers, GM is going to a global vehicle catalogue where the same cars are sold all over the world, usually called the same name now. The days of region-specific cars are on their way out. If I was working in one of the Aus factories producing Commodores or Falcons, I'd be trying to get myself as skilled up as possible in a new industry, or starting to learn to speak Thai or Spanish.

I'm no fan of the side windows either - looks like the new Patrol to me. And she ain't pretty. Likewise all the manufacturers are working towards having a similar "corporate face" on all their models, which is why this looks like a Captiva, and the Captiva looks like a fat Colorado, and... I'm no fan of the Chevy split-grill, but it looks like it's here to stay.

All that said, it's good to have another new mid-size "proper" offroader. Before Mitsi bought out the new Challenger, there really wasn't anything in that space. Personally I'm looking forward to the T6 as IMHO the Ranger chassis is a better base, but that's just me. Important thing is that there's choice in the marketplace. The market will regulate how many different-but-similar models it can support - if the dual-cab market is anything to go by though, there should be room enough for all of these.

Nice to see if with Holden badges on.

I agree. Sadly, I suspect those days are long gone.

Still - Kia has been showing that you can have an "international" car that's tuned pretty well to local conditions. The models they have shared with Hyundai have quite regularly received considerably higher reviews for handling and NVH levels than the basically-identical Hyundai model. So maybe it just comes down to the company being happy to invest in local R&D to adapt the generic model to the local scenario.

Yep.. I think the AU manufacturers will be gone within 5yrs.
They dont offer enough, and dont have money to create new for our market.

Ford already have a version called the Everest based on the ranger. They have them in Fiji.

OK so these vehicles may be manufactured elsewhere but Holden (and Ford) has a BIG part in these vehicles' development at Lang Lang (and You Yangs) in Vic. With Rodeo and Colorado heritage (and development) here I reckon this Colorado 7 will be a good thing on Aussie conditions, potentially better than Pathy/Challenger etc

Absolutely agree with this.  They are gone if they stick making the same old same old they have for the last century.
