Hi All,

Just a general interest question about who is involved in Scouting. I have seen a couple of mentions in here.

I was Groupie then Scout Leader almost 10 years ago, and since my daughter joined Scouts last year I am now Group President.

Apologies if this thread has already happened, I did a quick search and couldn't find anything.

Regards,

Bunyip

Hey Scott,

I'm at 1st Kings Langley!

Lost,

Seems very early, ours do not start until around 6:30pm. Our daughter went to a Guides meeting and a Scout meeting and decided on Scouts. We are very lucky that we have a lot of very dedicated Scout leaders and our troop is extremely active.

At 1st Kellyville both Cubs & Scouts start at 7pm, Joeys at 6pm and Venturers at 7.30pm. 4pm is way early! Even the Guides around here don't start their knitting classes until 6pm  >:D

I think we now have waiting lists for all levels except the Veggies. Big growth area, so I wouldn't be surprised to see another group form out near The Ponds or Rouse Hill.

Cub scout leader for 10 years or so about 10 years ago, even did the week long wood badge course at Baden Powell Park (Samford) Has long since folded in our town due to lack of numbers and interest, shame realy, as it was an awesome thing to be involved in.

I was in Sea Scouts as a kid, thus why I'd love to get my kids into it.

Looking on the website, theres plenty that are between 4-6pm.

Edit: In all fairness, this probably works for other people, and the leaders who give up their time.

Which ones would you recommend?
Nords Wharf was nice - but remember the shoes for the razor clams.
Berrima was pretty good for canoeing.
Cataract was awesome for Cuboree, but holds no interest for regular camping.

Always looking for new locations to try, both for Cub camps, but also regular family camping during the school holidays.

As a "youth member" I was a Cub, Scout, Venturer, and Rover. (no Joeys in my day)

I was also a Scout leader for years but took a step back from 'active leader' roles and am now the Assistant Group Leader.

Was a Land Scout in Cubs and Scouts then moved to a Sea Scout Group.

I have very fond memories of going to the Darling Downs Area Scout Olympics out at Cecil Plains in the early 90's. I remember playing pranks on one of the leaders by lifting his mini up onto the back of the semi trailer used as the stage. Amazing what a bunch of Venturers an do at 3 in the morning when we put our minds to it!!

Group Leader with Glennie Heights in QLD for the last two years. One Scout (almost Venturer), one cub and a pre Joey (4yr old comes on every camp).

I used to be a Venturer in the same group and regret not getting back into the uniform sooner.

JB

Oldest son has just joined cubs.

First camp in 3 weeks up near Riddles Creek Vic.

I'm looking forward to it as much as he is.

Cheers

It never ceases to amaze me how long people hang around the movement and come back again and again.
We have at least 3 leaders in our group that have not had kids in their section for 10 years but they are still there having fun and helping the kids have fun as well.

My eldest who is 8 is at the 9th Brunswick Cubs/Scouts. THey have been aksing me tio do leaders stuff but cant fit in the time. I help out as much as possible and am going away in a couple of weeks to TimberTop for a camp.....which is going to be a very long couple of days but hopefully fun.

bunyip

I realise time is an issue, and that is why I am doing a Committee role not a Leader role myself.

For anyone who could spare the time (and no it's not just one night a week for 1.5hrs) it is well worthwhile becoming a Leader.

Not only do you have a great time, but the feeling you get when one of the youth members finally gets something they have been trying to do is priceless.
