Hi
I was wondering if any one can tell me if you are able to get any decent Optus  mobile coverage on Fraser Island?

From memory in April 2011 Catherdral Beach no coverage and most if not all of the eastern side. Minimum coverage at the resort (Kingfisher??) on the western side ofthe island

Why don't you search the Optus website?  Telstra have this on theirs (I know) as should all.  Otherwise, search on Telstra's and 1/2 it.

Alot of times camping within 20 minutes of a larger town (at least 1 x McDonalds - hee hee) I'll get signal (Telstra) and he won't (Optus).

Telstra allways have the best coverage, this is why you pay more....THe best thing to do is to buy a blue tick phone outright (under $100) and get a Telstra pre paid....that way you get better coverage in most remoteish locations.

Have you checked their web site?
Check your coverage

Hey,

I just checked their website for around Brisbane ... I reckon they are "over stating" the coverage area (by a country mile or more) ... but that's just my opinion of course.  It might have something to do with his choice of phone?  It's not Blue Tick.  My Telstra one is a blue tick and even I don't get that sort of coverage.  I've been keeping track of who gets what and where for my blog.

Edit:  Not that it worries us much as we aren't reliant on our phones (or care much if they don't even get turned on), but just in case of emergency ... and as a reference for my blog notes.

It may also depend on the handset...

G'day Kit_e,
I just thought I would throw that up.
We used it as a guide for when we traveled last year and it was pretty spot on for our needs.
Where it didn't give coverage it didn't bother us. Some times it was nice not to have contact with the outside world  ;D
Besides it doesn't worry us if we can't get coverage everywhere  ;D

Highly doubt it as I am with optus and wife with telstra and neither of us had reception. (We camped at waddy point). In my opinion this is what i like most about these sort of areas, no one to annoy you when you are sitting back and relaxing. :D
