What Off-RoadCoupling?

Just trying to decide between an AL-KO Off-Road Coupling or a Oz Hitch, just wondering that everones thoughts on the two were?

Take a look a Hyland, too.
It has no pins, sleeves, springs, blocks, widgets or doohickeys that can be dropped, lost or damaged by terrain, mud or dust. And it fits on a standard 50mm ball.

My Hyland used a taller than standard ball I thought?

My vehicles have only ever had off-the-shelf 50mm balls but I did have a drama with one vehicle one day - and that may be why

I had a Oz hitch fitted to my camper and was very pleased with it. Easy to hook up and un-hook however, can be a tad fiddley on un-even ground to connect. I was then given a Hitchmaster DO35 to try and IMO you should also consider one of these. Very easy to hook up and un-hook regardless of ground conditions. It has a double locking mechanism. Have a look at their website. I'm not particularly a fan of their new version 2 hitch.

Just out of curiosity why is that?

I had a V1 on our first camper and thought it to be excellent, and I would assume the V2 would be an improvement.

I have just fitted a McHitch but haven't had it out and about much yet so can't really report.  I was originally going to fit an Ozhitch but they don't do a 4-bolt override version.

Couple of reasons John,  firstly i wasn't overly impressed with the plastic cover (thought it was a bit fragile) and that it only has 1 locking mechanism instead of the 2 on the original hitch.

However, it is only my personal preference as I'm sure in practise the V2 would be an easy hitch to use.

I've got the ozhitch on ours and although it was a little tight when brand new, after a couple of trips and some grease it's loosened up nicely and is great now. No rattles and quick to hook/unhook.
