Skiing Holidays in Aus

I am looking into a week long skiing holiday in Aus. Where do you start looking for prices and packages? We would have to hire everything but thermal underwear.

Does anyone know how to get a good deal for a family of four with two little boys. I would need accommodation, ski hire and lift passes.

Are there any good websites, discount sites, packages or similar that I can look at?

Not fussed on where we go, either NSW or VIC.

My hubby went to the snow for the first time last year with a few mates.  Can't help you with booking info, because his mates belong to a club.  If there is some advice to be passed on it would be - ensure that where you are booked has good slopes for beginners.  The guys he went with go to two different locations but because they had a beginner with them they chose an area where both beginners and advanced skiiers can go.  There other location, the slopes are too steep for a beginner to both learn and have a good time.

Falls Creek is good for beginners and intermediate skiers (and advanced if there is more than 2m of snow). I recon it is one of the most picturesque villages. You can put the kids in ski school as long as they are out of nap pies by memory it is 10am to 2 pm for under $100 which is cheap compared to the price of everything else!  Try a lodge called Banool, it's a nice place and reasonably priced.  You can check on the FC website but the accommodation prices are pretty stiff IMO. Compare the cost of NZ if you are coming across from SA, it might work out cheaper....

You can't beat Charlotts Pass for a young family.

Usually uncrowded and you can ski right to your door, which is great when you have little ones to organise.

In saying that I skied Queenstown last season.. Fantastic over there too.....

There are so many variables that need to be considered.
- do you want to self drive, bus it or fly
- do you want to go to NSW, Vic
- in snow or off mountain accomodation
- private lodge or commercial
- self catered or fully catered.
My advice for a first time experience is to go with an agent as there are too mant pitfalls, and you do not want your first experience to be a bad one.
I used the Ski Connection for many years and found excellent service there.
If you want more advice, let me know (I skied for 30 years at Hotham, Falls and a little at Buller and Perisher)

Buller is my Favourite.

Easy Access, good range of terrain.

Falls is nice also.

Seem to have had more than my share of whiteout days at Falls.

Ski school is great, you drop them off, they look after them for the day, feed them, teach them and generally give you time to enjoy yourself.

The next time you see them they zoom past you spraying ice in your face!

We camp at Jinderbyne, it around $300 for a family of 4 per week and is well set up for he cold. The lift tickets are the killer, they're around $2k for the week for us, but we're saving on  accommodation
And we pre cook a tonne of meals and take them in a thermos every day in a backpack. Food is really expensive, we got stung for $9 for a small bowl of wedges at Perisher. Have a fantastic time, we'll be there in September.
