I believe you.

Lucky they return ed it to you and didnt just bin it.

Also had some bad experiences with Australia post, royal mail, etc etc

Its either fully insured, or sent via courier. (Even then that's not a guarantee)

No wonder Email is killing the postal system.
Why do people ask "What the hell were you thinking?"
Obviously I was thinking I was going to get away with it and not have to explain it....

Just be wary of this newish tracking system.  Paid for a tripod to go from West Gippsland to Perth in February.  Tracking site says "Accepted at LPO" - disappeared - never to be seen again.
Just cause it has tracking doesn't mean it will get there.    >:(

This has just reminded me of when a friend got engaged, fiancé dropped all the invites for engagement party off at post office and they just put the whole box under the counter and forgot to post them...the whole lot! She was ringing people trying to find out why no one had rsvped and it's cause they never got the invite!

Yep, I've had the same experience. Parcel was delivered to our local post office and it was lost on its way to our PO box which is in the same physical building. Auspost said too bad so sad.
I owe, I owe, it's off to work I go...

Yep say for instance I send something to a friend. Said friend lives in Launceston. I live just north, but its an invite so why not... It goes from Post Office - to mail centre Launceston - Hobart by truck - sorted over night- back to mail centre in Launceston to be then delivered... Or this is what I was told.

Company christmas function near Hawks Nest NSW. about 48 bods.
Everybody dusty on the Sunday morning, left a fair bit of gear there, resort sent it to AP, local AP outlet has no clue and less gear.
Resort doesnt care, AP dont care. Gear gone. disappeared.
Frustrating. >:(
I got a sweater for Xmas, really wanted a moaner or screamer.

Try living in Weipa. If you get something sent here but with your street address on it (no posties here) then it sits in the post office. You have to ask for your parcels. No delivery here since the postie was found to be stealing stuff !!

The guy who owned the LPO there took off with the woman who had the delivery contract for Weipa and a considerable amount of AP's cash. The Post Office was manned by AP staff from Cairns for a fair while until the courtcase was complete. Don't know why they haven't renewed the delivery contract.   Anybody looking for a job in Weipa ?

McGirr I am sorry to hear about your experience. I will bet that the Express envelope was probably a C5 in size. I too have found these stuck in a bottom corner of an Express Post bag. It is not common but I have seen it

We get a lot of stuff delivered by post, and for us it is often quicker to get stuff delivered by them than couriers.  Being out in the country we have limited couriers, and one of the local guys gets your package he says he doesn't have time to go to your house and will hang on to a package for a few days until he gets around to it.

Our local PO knows everyone by name- you could put our name on with just Moyhu 3732, and mail will get here!  Packages get left on the doorstep. Signed a form and they can sign for our stuff and deliver it.  Only had a parcel contents from Adelaide go missing once, and that was because the idiot who posted it didn't seal the ends of cylinder and the UHF aerial fell out- only to be found in Melbourne, luckily as I had received the instructions and were able to give them a detailed description of the item!!

Speaking of Tassie - i recently had a letter posted to me from Tassie - but Aussie Post also gave me all of the mail with address in NT that were sent from Tassie as mine was the top one on the bundle -  so i now know how mail can go missing.
