Has anyone been?

it's off the duncan road, I am thinking of going there on my way up to Kununurra for the muster, I spoke to Kirstin on flora valley station today and she has no issue with us going in there, although apparently it can be quite difficult to find the entrance, she said to me that I have to look for a star pickett with a dog trap/bait on it, and that if i hit a concrete causeway i have gone to far.

everything i read about it is telling me to go there, pretty isolated and should have the place to ourselves hopefully.

Cheers

I think it's a lovely spot, have been there a few times
Although that was when I lived in Halls Creek so was about 12 years ago the last time I would have been there
But can certainly recommend it from my vague memory!!!

Had a beaut night there for my birthday a few years ago. The entrance is a little non descript but the Hema Navigator said we were there, so we drove on in.  8)

We were there last year. It is a little hard to find the entrance however is very nice. Not a lot of shade at the top but still very nice

I'm not lost. I am exploring.

We camped there a couple of weeks ago. Nice spot. We even cracked out the kayaks and also had a swim. There are freshies there but they shouldn't bother you. Grab some firewood before you get there.
The turn off is on a big right angle bend about 22 km before you get to the Buntine Highway if travelling north. Heres where we camped.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the replies, good info,

Hey Whitey1, what is the road in like, did you come from the halls creek end?  I was going to ring the bloke at halls creek today to find out.

We drove down from Kununurra. The road deteriorates into just a track in places but isn't bad. From the gorge to halls creek is not too bad, a grader was working in places when we came through 3 weeks ago.

Has anyone got some photos of Marella Gorge they can post up - sounds like a nice place.

Also can you just go camp there or do you have to phone first?

I rang flora valley station just to be sure, they had no problem with us going in there, just let them know dates we were going to be there.

Has anyone been to Marella Gorge lately? I've read really good reports about it this place and we will be driving right past on our way up the Duncan Rd.

I've read some rumours that Flora Valley Station was closing access to Marella Gorge after 2014, I plan to contact the station and ask for permission but thought I would ask if any swaggers have been in the last few years.

Just an update to others who may be after information on Marella gorge in the Kimberley, Flora Valley Station no longer allow access to the gorge. Thanks to Clint who took the time to send us a message after he had contacted Flora Valley and obtained this information.

That's a real shame, we had a great time there, had the place all to ourselves from start to finish of our stay.

Did it last year on our Return to Kimberly trip . Loved it .    Though there were a few to many poo tickets blowing around . The view of the stars are well worth watching ( about 5 feet to the Left )   You had to be there . Do go to the trouble of finding it , & while your there go up the Duncan Rd North  to Zebra Rock Mine . Do DO the Sunset boat trip through the Wet Lands . Bucket list stuff ..........

The last time I was there in 1988 [ Worked on Flora valley station ] the gorge surrounds were home to partying local people for a few days .. smouldering fires with remains of partialy cooked / eaten  donkeys, Heaps of bottles cans and assorted cartons strewn everywhere .. other than that it was a nice place to go for a swim down in the rock pools for a day off ... Didnt realise they had opened it up to camping .
