The roads are still closed in some areas as per link below:

http://131940.qld.gov.au/Home.aspx

I do expect them to be open by the time we head off but it will give you an indication what to expect.

The OTL could be just as bad as last years trip may be even worse but we will find out once we hit it.

Just go over your recovery gear to make sure you have everything you need.

Once we leave Archer River it is approx a 2 hr drive until we hit the OTL but we will stop at Bramwell Junction to get everything ready, top up on fuel if needed and ice creams for the Adults.

BRING IT ON !! ;D

How many times do we need to look at that photo?

Everytime we talk about the Cape someone posts a pic of me bogged!

Just arrived home from four days at the mine working. The guys arrived at Bamaga and they did do the lower section of the OTL. Palm was metre plus deep they had to winch out of Gunshot I think hope to get them on the phone today for a real update. They said they were the tenth vehicle to do the run this year. They have been camping at Mutty Head doing some fishing etc. We are all envious.

Mr McGirr, will the rain I'm hearing about have any affect on our creek crossings.

Bert

It will have no effect as the rain is nearly all in Caurns and surrounds. The Cape has had only very light rain if any.

Returned home after a month up the cape fishing on the 1/6/12 roads were in good condition, as you would expect this early in the season, some soft spots still in patches, and some of the"dips" were savage. We only did the development road to the jardine as we were towing a 4.5 metre boat.

Just got a text from a mate of mine who is up there at the moment - the development road is in pretty good condition but deteriorating as the traffic is increasing.  There are a few dust holes and the corrogations are there but not too bad.  He had to winch the last 10m at Palm Creek and decided to avoid Nolans as the news is that it is claiming a lot of scalps already - more than one a day.  He also said that Frenchmans was pretty easy.

Well we might have palm creek all to ourselves. I wonder with 20 men digging and clearing the mud we could build a new track   ;D

It sounds like it is the same as last year. No problem for the myswag team.

If Palm Creek is that tough we may find very few people camping at Dulhunty

We heard that the road into Vrilya was impassable about 2 weeks ago. I know how things change quickly but just letting you know.
