After applying a bit of a sales pitch to the wife, she has now warmed up to getting a new camper. I even caught her on the Internet looking around herself so I knew she must be keen.

Hardest bit now is working through and selecting a short list, so many dam fine campers on the market and I like them all.

So we are spending this morning looking around and will be starting with the local Jayco Dealer with the Hawk at the top of the list.

Also like Cub, Camprite, Complete campsite, Johno campers, mod con campers.

Reminds me of my safari in Africa. Somebody forgot the corkscrew and for several days we had to live on nothing but food and water.

Also keen on the TAMBO Camper, they seem to get a very good wrap for quality and value for money, especially the Cooper Model.

I've done some reading up already but would appreciate any feedback from TAMBO owners.

Cheers

Cannot go wrong on a Tambo, started off with a second hand cooper that we have had for 4 years or so and are waiting for the Omeo to be made which should be ready in a month or so. Check out my link below to see the Coopers evoultion. I have found them to be a great camper for the price with some of the best canvas going around, Keith and Amanda are also great to deal with.

Sawed-Off

After doing our research, the wife and I were ecstatic to pick up our 2nd hand Cooper at the price we did. We've only done the one trip (Easter) with another longer trip in a couple of weeks time. I've got a few small maintenance jobs to do on it, but we love it. It's built like a battleship, and the standard size tent is dead easy to put up. The Lido Junior stove/grill is low pressure, so you can leave the gas bottle in the holder and just connect the hose. You can also buy spare parts for it at a couple of online caravan part suppliers. My wife really likes the step instead of a ladder to get into/out of bed, and the vertical tent sides over the bed. Not only is the main tent/bed on gas struts for outside access, but the under bed hatch is one big piece that is also on gas struts making it easy to use. The new price that covers the options we have would be ~$12k. I wouldn't have seen the value in it before compared to the bargain basement prices of the Chinese kit, but I do now. We'd gladly buy another. You could do far worse than a new or 2nd hand Cooper.

Before you commit, have a good look at what is on offer and have a think about how you would actually live in it. Luke's articles over at Drifta are really good for tips on easy camping in a CT. Enjoy the search.

Have decided to keep with our soft floor a little while longer, and upgrade to better quality soft floor in 6 - 12 months, and save a little more  $$$$

Tambo camper is looking good at the moment

Hi there, we have a Tambo and we love it.  We've had it around two years now, must admit doesn't get out as much as we'd like!  The overall unit is well made especially the tent.  The stitching on the tent is very good no needle holes etc all doubled stitched. ( After having a Tru Blu camper briefly this is something we noticed immediately) We got a few extras with ours ie: longer drawer bar, extra jerry holders at the front, kitchen, extra bedroom, sides and front to the awning.  What is great too is the side lift when packing.  I would certainly recommend a Tambo to anyone.
