TroopiePete

Hi Guys & Gals

It's TroopiePete here, you may know me from such events as help my club is about to fold and forums so many that not even I know what I belong to  ???

Currently I am the surviving President of the River City 4WD club and am pleased to say that we seem to be still attracting new members, now the problem is getting enough trips to keep them happy!

Oh well I asked for it... I think  :-[

How do I fit into this group...
Not sure yet but I have been told you are good bunch of people and love making your own so chances are we will get just fine.
it's not that I'm a tight ass (ok I am) but it's just that I prefer to make my own and often what I want is never in the shop so cause I can I do  ;D

Our lives are way too short and we have one huge country and I or should I say We (Wife Narelle) want to see most of it - so each year we intend on getting out and taking trips that start with one or two weeks or up to a month travelling, camping at night then travelling the next day so I needed an easy to setup and packup camping design and I didn't want to tow as we intend on travelling several deserts and well the cost is a killer so the option I took was to purchase a Troop Carrier, install a bed, fridge, sink and so on.. so my design lives.

Oh any Hams out there I disparately need help this coming weekend to run checkpoints at Maryvale Near Warwick for a Horse Endurance ride!
If you are able to help please let me know ASAP - 22nd -23rd April 2012

You don't use magic to disappear, all you need is a 4wd & a Swag ;)

Welcome to the forum. I love your set up, nice and simple.  Life is too short and there is so much to see, if only the fuel was not so expensive, that is the killer.
Use to live not that far away from you, many years back. I know the area has changed a lot. The Holden factory was fully operational back in my time and Algester was a new suburb, with a nice new petrol station on the corner of the main road. I remember being a 3 rd year apprentice and buying a 32 p block at Runcorn for $7,000!    Yep, a few years back.  8)

I love the simplicity of having it all in the car....My husband and I traveled around oz in a double swag (well ok it was single - how we fitted I have no idea!  The things you do when you are young and silly!) and only had a Falcon XD. *sigh* one day when the kids have left home, we can "downsize" to that again!

Welcome to the money pit!
If at first you don't succeed...do it your wife's way! :P

TroopiePete

Hi again,
Thanks for the comments on our setup..

The idea for this design was to keep it simple and easy to setup/packup

I have been away camping with the kids for many years as Narelle was often working and could not take the time, we always camped using tents and all of the fun associated with this, then in 2008 Two of our kids Scott & Wendy  (we have four) came with me on a trip across the Simpson Desert from the Western side, this was a club trip and there were several other cars, this trip was very much a travel by day and camp by night trip and for the most of it I must say given the short time available and huge distances we need to cover I can see that many more of my trips will be of this nature.. I watched as many of the members including ourselves set up each afternoon then packed up in the morning and decided for the long term I did not want to have the hassle of tents and beds!
I did look at the option of tent cots and swags but all of these were expensive at the time and took up heaps of room when packed.
As our children are now all adults and mostly out doing there own thing most current and future trips will either be just myself or with Narelle, although the kids would like to come they often now cant - hence the removal of the rear seat from the Troopy  ;D

So there it is - the Troopy home away from home.. there are many further mods I would like to do including instant electric hot water and possibly a pop-top if I can find one cheap enough!

So don't be shy - if you have an idea that works or even one that has not been tried then let me know..

Currently I am doing some rust removal, installing an electronic rust unit (from ebay) and altering the rear sink water hose so it's inside of the door..
More mods on the way  ???

How is education supposed to make me feel smarter? Besides, every time I learn something new, it pushes some old stuff out of my brain. Remember when I took that home winemaking course, and I forgot how to drive?  (Homer J Simpson).
