JERRY CAN HOLDERS FOR ROOF RACK

hEY CAN YOU GUYS GIVE ME SOME INSPERATIONAL IDEAS FOR SOMTHING TO PUT MY JERRYS ON THE ROOF RACK WITH.

I'd be looking at a different place to put them and keep the centre of gravity of the vehicle close to where it is supposed to be - If you can't do that then lay em flat as mentioned in previous post make sure they can't move ..

I ended up buying 10 litre fuel plastic containers to sit on the roof rack, use ratchet straps and a rope just in case the straps fail.  I went for the 10 litre size because they fit better, stand upright and easy to get on and off.  Kevin

Don't think they do them in a 20lt. All 5lt or 10lt I believe. Please correst me if I'm wrong but thats what I read somewhere.

I would just use a ratchet strap or two. However remember that for every litre of fuel you are looking at (just short of) a kilo of weight. Add to this the "slushing" effect of juel in a jerry can, and I would suggest mounting it somewhere lower to avoid increaseing the centlre of gravity of the tug.

I'd be asking myself 'do I need to carry these jerry cans on the roof'?     As mentioned high centre of gravity is a good thing to avoid. 

Best set-ups I've seen have big bulky items like swags on roof racks & heavy stuff like jerry cans down low so they're easy to get to & don't wreck your back getting them up or down.

We have a CT so lashing a few extra jerry cans to it is a doddle.

Thanks for the input people i understand about gravity jeezzzz iv gone lopsided after a few pales myself only looking at maybe one jerry rest is on the ct

Mate they fit perfectly inside the 3/4 height plastic fish boxes. My mate has done all of his travel's with his jerry's laying inside these boxes which are then strapped down.

Is this what your thinking , Tracklander , ARB and all the big names sell them , be prepared to get the fingers burnt when you hand your $$$ over , without checking I think the tracklander ones are around the $260 mark . Found our one on Gumtree for half the price  They are well made and do the job they are designed to do . Getting them down off the roof can be interesting , If you don't mind using your seat and door frame as a ladder then all is good

As for the weight issue, sure, there is more weight on the roof, so empty the jerry cans into the vehicle at the first opportunity, all good.
