I tried one of those washing machine barrels that supposedly wash the clothes as you drive, and found I spent a lot of time hand washing clothes in an expensive bucket :/ This looks like a much better idea...

It is a great idea, we usually put our dirty clothes, water and detergent into one of those nappy pales then put it in the roof basket before we leave in the morning,  by the time we get to our next destination the washing is done.

We use a Safari Can which fits in our jerry can holders, it is like a plastic jerry can with a large removable lid. We use it as a storage container, or add the optional shelf and put smalls and do the washing in it while travelling between camping spots. Google it to see. Or carry water in them like a normal jerry Can

l use a 20L bucket  with lid ,1/2 full of water on the side step of the CT & corrigations to do the work

First saw this idea shown on the Leyland Brothers way back when. They used a 20 Litre bucket with clip on lid ( I think it was a chicken feed additive bucket) and have copied it on a trip to norwest NSW and it work a treat.
I found I needed to use  half the recommended detergent (probably front load washer stuff would be better) for one day, and then the clothes spent the next day in a bucket of clean water and rinse aid (again, half strength) for a 2nd day. Hung out over night and the clothes were dry .  Four days of clothes for two people were a load.

Girlfreind at the time said the clothes were cleaner than if they came out of a washing machine. I wouldnt know, it was her job to wash the clothes!

l think a dedicated bucket will be good . Dont want to put cans in the sock & jock wash bucket
