LED Drivin Lights

Checking this add out in the lastest 4X4 Aus from www.greatwhites.com.au about led driving lights. Has anyone got/used these lights? they do not give a lot of info on distances they get out of them etc. They come in 9/12/18 LEDs, any info greatly appreciated.

My mate has a Baja Designs light bar on his Triton Bullbar and after driving with him at night and dawn, its an awsome light. That good that it made up my mind to purchase one. Ive got a 12 LED 120W one mounted on my roof rack but havent been out at night to test it yet. Down here there awsome for our twisty, tight roads and bush work but do lack long range penetration. If its long range work, go for HID's....for now.

Totally agree, awesome for short distances, if you want long distance, get HID's. If you want both and have the $$$ to spare a combination of both would be the go.

I saw these yesterday, $430 for a 9 led unit, $629 each for the 18 LED light,
The box say's that one 18 LED light gives out the same amount of light as 6 100 watt halogens !!!, cost's about that much as well.
I have read that the LED's give a great spread of light, but are no good for penertrating distance, similar to those LED light bars that are available.

My LED light over the kitchen in the C/T has a great spread of light so as everyone is saying they would be great for short distance working your way up a track in the pitch black, thanks everyone for your replies.

I use a 6 LED bulb in my Lightforce 170 for shooting, and its easily as good as the standard Halogen bulb that was in there, uses way less power and generates less heat. It get about 200mtrs of usable light, and its small/less powerful compared to what a car mounted light would be

I guess if you already have HID's then don't replace em, but unless you value seeing 1k up the road, the led's would be the better choice imho

I think the issue with LED lights is that they're still too expensive, as HID was when it first became popular.

I reckon they'd be terrific for closer-to-the-vehicle lighting, which we all need. Seeing well up the road is also very nice, means you don't have to brake as hard

. Also, better lights make for less fatigue when driving at night.
