Hi all, sorry for the ? but how much baking soda do I need to put in a 85litre water tank to get rid of the plastic taste?
I'm being tight after spending a fortune lately and haven't gone to the shops for the"tank flush" so its the home made version Im afraid.

cheers

liney,

I have never tried baking soda but why not put 1/3rd in & see how it goes. If there is still a taste, bung the other 2/3rds in.

Hi Liney
I am not sure about the tank but the plastic taste in the water from our tank
ended up being caused by the hose we filled the tank with . Used a different hose
,plastic taste gone .

I used bicarb soda, I used what I thought would work. I then went for a drive so it would slosh around. i then drained the tank and repeated the proccess. It worked well and i have never had a problem since.

I used a full coffee mug disolved in a 9lt bucket of warm water which was then added to the tank and the tank filled to the brim and all taps run for a bit.  Left in until dumped, refilled & taps run again on next departure day (weeks)

Hi Linley

As previously posted check your fill up hose also. Buy a food grade hose from bunnings as these don't tranfer the plasic taste to your tank. I haven't used bi carb before, I usually 1/3 fill my tank and put some milton tablets in it (kills bacteria also) then drive around the block a few times. I leave it in for a couple of hour then rinse. This has worked well for us so far.

Hi Linley, I tend to put about half a kilo of bi carb mixed before putting in tank. We do this every couple of trips and never have any issues.
