Noticed these on free bay today. They might be ok for playing in the mud during winter. Don't that I would trust them for long distance touring. Pretty good value for play tyres at $100 each.

Fully agree ,once aired down they will let you down.

I have been searching for muddies for the camper for cape your this year and am looking very closley at the Nanking mud stars $235 fitted in 285/75/16 .

I know it's a little more than $100 but depending on the size you want they are even cheaper and are a decent tyre for playing . With removal of old tyres and fitting and bal inc in that price there is no way I would go

I will wait and see if I can find some second ones but most are overpriced with not much tread so Nanking it may well be :D

you should be able to get the Kumho KL71's for not much more than that...  I did.... :) Best muddy by far on the road in the wet I've ever had.. although not going to get 80,000 klms out of em, but at the price I didnt expect to....

Agree with your comments lads. I certainly wouldn't entertain a cape trip with them. But for people who just play locally and give it hell it may be a cheap option. I have 6 new Cooper STT's for the 80 and to be honest I am not that rapt in them. Will look at other options when the time comes and probably match the cruiser to the BFG's on the camper.

Nankang's  have been around for a few years now, and have proved to be a very good cheap tyre. being a Taiwan product. they are value for money.
Another new comer is Nexen, with a good range. have a look at there MT's. i put a set on the Hilux, at $175 fitted they are cheap enough.. time will tell how good they are, so far, after 4 months the only fault is the road noise..
A lot more noisier than the Nankang's

I used to put the Nexen road tyres on my WRX. I used to do high k's and was sick of chewing through $250 tyres in a couple of months. All the taxis seem to be on them and they were good for the price, I think about $100 per tyre. So you might be on to a decent thing with the 4WD tyres.

Lloyd65,

Although the camper wheels produce no drive , they do push alot when going down hill in muddy or slipery conditions . with brakes weather they be electric/ overide /hyd the brakes are only as good as the tread on the tyres. As this is what stops the camper , with bald tyres the camper will take some stopping or will move sideways alot.

All terains are fine , I just figure why not put muddies on when the price is very similar and then I can if I have too put them on the car.

I,ve seen the bite marks in a track after a camper with good muddies has gone down hill ,you can certainly see and feel the difference in how the camper pulls up.
