Hi guys,

I'm new here and want to know about hard floors. I drive a 4.2t GU wagon and want a camper thats easily to erect on my own (mainly cause the missus cant always get time off work to come bush with me) also we're planning a family and i want some where to keep bub.

I have a budget of no more than 20k ish...

The 2 campers i have narrowed down to are the
Eagle Camper EC4 or the Bushranger camper

http://www.bushrangercampers.com.au/index.html

What experiences have people had with these campers?

Any info would be great

Thank you

Do you know where they're manufactured? The Eagle looks to be of Chinese manufacture to me, in which case you'd want to have a really good look at the canvas. Also, be very clear about the warranty and after sales service, and make sure you conduct a meticulous pre-delivery inspection.

I am not anti Chinese, in fact I import and sell agricultural equipment from China and so am familiar with the qualty issues one needs to look for.

I like the tent design on the Bushranger. From the look of the welds on the suspension a-frame I'd be looking at all the welds and how the tub is affixed to the chassis.

With your budget you could get an older KK or a newer Pioneer. Have seen the odd AORC Odyssey fro $25K as well.

Thanks guy, I have spoken to Eagle Campers and they said the campers are built in china but are assembled in australia in their work shop and fitted out.
It comes with a 5year structural warranty and 12months on other parts.

this is what he said
"Hello Justin
Thanks for the enquiry
My Name is Brent Boardman I am the owner of Eagle Trailers & Campers
My wife Kay and I run the company and deal direct with customers
There are 7 people working here and we take a lot of pride in our trailers
and campers.
Kay and I got involved in the industry after many years of being involved in
the transport industry.
About 5 years ago we thought we would update our
old camper and get a new one. After going to several companies and getting
prices I was
shocked at how much they cost and could not justify spending 40+ thousand
dollars on a camper
Trailer. So I investigated Purchasing  Campers from China. I visited some
factories and discovered that
if I gave them the exact specifications of what I wanted they would build it
for me at a fraction of the cost.
I also Discovered that the Chinese are no different to Australians when it
comes to quality if you want quality
you must be prepared to pay for it. The same thing applies to the Canvas if
you want quality that is just as good as Australian Canvas all you have to
do is pay what they want and they will be more than happy to supply it to
you, as at the end of the day they want to keep  our business. After several
trips to China checking on the quality, and making sure I got the quality
that I required, I decided to start importing Campers and Trailers into
Australia. To get them into the country they must by law comply with
Australian standards .(this is not an option). However to ensure that they
are assembled correctly they are sent to us totally un-assembled and the
team in my factory put them together so that we know every nut and bolt is
put on correctly. We have 2 Boilermakers/ fabricators working for us that
are very experienced in Manufacturing Trailers & Campers so they oversee all
the assembling. The reason we sell trailers as well as campers is by doing
so we are not relying on one product to make a profit which allows us to
keep our Campers and trailers at very reasonable prices. We have also gone
to the trouble and expense to get an Australian engineers report on the
strength of our draw bars, to give us and the customer peace of mind. We do
not hide the fact that we get our trailers and campers from China as they
are to our specifications and we are proud of the quality of all of our
products. A very high percentage of campers now come from China, however a
lot of the companies will hide that fact from the customers and make claims
they are Australian made. They can get away with doing that as when you
import the campers into Australia you are classed as a manufacturer. As they
have been built to our specifications and assembled by my staff we offer a 5
year structural warranty and 12 months on other parts. We do custom build
trailers and have done for all different purposes. They are either built in
our factory or by a local engineering company that does high quality work."

so but the sounds of it, i think the might be worth looking at, although i'm waiting for bushranger to get back to me

i havent ruled out a second hand poineer or KK, i do like the aussie swag kitchens though...

All sounds good, but I would still be looking at the second hand pioneer or KK.

I agree with a lot of what the chap wrote back to you, though perhaps not on the canvas.

Anyway, best of luck it's an exciting thing to pick out a camper. You can't go too far wrong.

Hi and Welcome to MySwag,

We love our Aussie Swag and I don't think you could go wrong with a second hand one.  Most owners take very good care of their investment.  Being that they are a quality build, using Australian products and made right here in Queensland, you can be guaranteed of some fantastic after sale service (yes even on a second hand one).  One person can easily open, setup, pack down and close ... which for us in case of emergency, it was important that I could do this on my own.  Hope I don't sound too biased  ;D

thanks for your input guys, i really appriciate it

i would love a brand new camper. but i'm not ruling out a second hand...

but at the end of the day being in brisbane is hard to actually check out these campers. espically the bushranger and the eagle camper...

if the eagle is as good quality they say they are, i might just be a winner, but it's hard to say over the phone and the internet.

for the price and warrenty of the eagle i dont think you can go past it. even though they look like the pinnacle. i know after reading some reviews about them, there are some quality control issues but are generally good. so if the eagle can fix these i'm happy to pay the little bit extra. 20k is alot for a camper and i think with the left over money i can modify it to suit my needs aswell.

the bushman looks great though, soo much storage aparently

We recently spent a week in Bendigo and the couple next to us had  Bushranger.  It was their first outing in it, and at the end of the week I asked them their thoughts and they were happy with it.  They said the mattress was a bit too hard to they went to Clarke Rubber and bought and eggshell ovelay which cured the problem.

thats what i mean, if that extra price means a higher quality of finish, that would be the deal breaker.

OK, no worries. There may be some differences between them.

Just wanted to make sure you are aware that one is 50% more than the other.....

Good luck, and have fun on your quest.

Just seen your topic and probably late with a response, but will give my 2 cents worth.

I own a Bushranger, have had it for nearly 3 years. They are a good solid basic camper. Don't have all the bells and whistles of a KK , Pioneer, etc, but you will always pay for those in any camper.

Have taken it off road, on road and any road and it hasn't caused me any problems..

They are Australian made, with excellent canvas quality.

I would recommend them.
