Fires and fire wood collection in Vic and NSW NP

Hey guys can someone pls let me know the ruling on fires and fire wood collection in the NP through NSW and Vic namely grampians and kosciuszko pls thanks

NSW - fires subject to fire rating for the day eg observe TOBANs.

If you mean collection of wood for a fire while camping in NSW it is fine, if you mean to go and grab a trailer load to take home it is not on.

edit: also no fires or wood collection in the alpine area

Last time we camped in a NSW NP, there were signs up saying no collection of fire wood,  so we went outside the boundary and got some ... don't know how they would be able to tell though, unless it was obvious you got it from around the camp ground.

Depends if you've got a guilty conscious or not I guess.

watto, re picking up firewood, what the ranger doesn't see the ranger doesn't know

Thanks guys it's obviously worth taking the chain saw the reason I ask is because 99% of qld is fire free in NP now so not much point but I agree with pick it up along the way and a bit of a stroll from camp is always called for thanks

cant remember which it is, but you cant even take it in pieces...

No chain saw, no saw no axe and no collecting or moving of any wood/timber in a National Park.   If caught you face server fines and have you chainsaw/saw/axe taken as well.

The Grampians NP Management plan says you cant use a chainsaw for firewood collection and that firewood collection is an "inappropriate" activity for all land units (read - no collection).

Yes that is true but you can travel through a park I think and I also read some where you can carry the saw if you break the saw down which we did on a 6 Month across Aus trip. So I took the blade off the body. never got checked anyway.

my chainsaw & axe are always with me, but i have never used them in a national park, never needed to as i collect before i get in to the NP.

To my knowledge there is no restriction on the carriage of chainsaws in NSW NPs.

There may be specific areas where fires and firewood collection (for personal use while camping) is restricted. There are many areas where firewood has basically been totally removed. I think we all know places where areas have been totally flogged and we have all seen "campfires" that are completely unnecessary so far as size is concerned?
