Darren,

By all means do what you got to do to make yourself feel better. But really how hard is it to have Trips in the Trips section, Campers in the Campers section and Rants in the General section?

As for threads that you have no interest in, I find that if you don't read them they don't bother you.

As for everyone else. You don't have to edit your topics. Just if you are going to tell us about your adventure, where you went and what you got up too... please put it in the trips section.

There's more than one way to skin a cat. I believe this approach was rude and completely condescending. Darren was pretty passionate about myswag and making an effort to share his trips and modifications, I enjoyed reading them and learning.

It's members like this that make myswag what it is, but with the above approach myswag isn't a sustainable 'top dog'.

Just my view.

This rule on the placement of trip reports was obviously targeted at a couple of myswag's more well travelled members, who incidentally were regular posters of their trip reports for the information and entertainment of all.

As I see it, it doesn't matter where a trip report is posted so long as it is posted somewhere.

I can see that the rule isn't a biggy to comply with, but for what reason?  Anyone searching for information will have the resulting trip report information listed whether it is in the trip report section or in a camper or vehicle thread.

Brett's take it or leave it response was surprising especially knowing what input Darren had made to the forum, which more recently had included helping Brett and the other moderators fine tune a new format of the forum.

There are plenty of members on here who have little or no real input into the forum as far as trip information or technical know how goes, and who's posts are predominantly chit chat or cheap shot in nature, and they are encouraged, and yet someone with real camping, travel and technical experience is pretty well brushed off.

Laith

I personally don't thinks Brett's response was rude, especially when it's put in context with Darren's post.

Yeah no worries..
I will go through and delete all my trip reports on my camper thread. I don't want to do the wrong thing..........

I will concentrate more on whinging and bitching in things like rant threads and all the other non relevant crap ....

Totally agree with you here.

My initial read of the thread gave me the impression that Brett's original comment was a general request.
There are more than just Darren who have tacked trip reports onto their trailer thread. However the targeted response to Darren's post would have been much better in a PM. In the same way, a more considered post from Darren may not have resulted in Brett's answer.

I too am someone who has done this in my camper trailer thread, (both campers I have owned)
http://myswag.org/forum/index.php?topic=4615.0 As you can see here  ;D

I understand the rules but the way I look at is a way of keeping track of " My Camper Trailer Travels" and how the mods and additions I have added to the camper work over that time. I also have posted many trips reports in the trips section which I hope have been imformative then they have been bumped up from time to time with other swaggers asking for info on areas I have travelled too.

I could post more trip reports but I think it might bore some.  I have been away the last two weekends but  haven't posted any pis or reports about those weekends. I only have time to chuck up a few pics some times and doesn't warrent a full trip report so that why I would have posted them in my camper thread.

Lets not turn this thread into a slanging match, there has been enough of that going  on here lately....

Cheers

There are quite a few people who put a lot of effort contributing to my swag both technically and taking time to report on there travels. Also, organise My swag trips and gatherings and seeing them through and writing reports at the end with the only reward being the knowledge that others will benefit from it free of charge. This in not a criticism to those that don't but more and acknowledgement to those that do
A little while ago one of the higher contributing members was sent a PM by a senior moderator criticizing a few of us for placing too much emphasis on trips. This seemed unusual based on the fact that's it's a camper trailer forum. Then there has been major forum trips where Moderators were involved where  there has been pages of pre trip posts only to have almost no trip report, then for us to find if you want to see the report you have to buy a magazine. Maybe even Myswag's own national meet will go this way. It doesn't really bother me but I'm sure it leaves a sour taste in the mouths of quite a few who do put the effort in. So yes, it does seem to quite a few that the only input to trips and reports by the moderators it to chip those who like to keep all there stuff in the one place.
So in answer to the original post "what am I doing" well the answer is "what ever I want." Camping with my friends and family and seeing Australia. Oh and yes, I'm still living the dream

I'm sure this will be deleted or locked anyway. We cant have dissent.

But I'm sure it won't have fazed him much...

More to the point, I'm surprised he didn't swing the bat around a few times as he was picking it up. ??? ;D ;D

Where is Darren?

Where is Darren? A more important question(s) for me would be: "Who" is Darren? and "Why" do I (or should I) care? lol. Is he someone I should know? Is he someone I need to know? Is he a nice fella?

Darren is the original myswag stalwart. He can weld metal with his bare hands. What he doesn't know about Toyotas and KKs is not worth knowing. He is also credited with breaking the Simpson Desert drought. He is an elusive creature, there are not many photos of him in his natural habitat.

Robbie is still on here fairly regularly checking up on what's going on.  I'm sure he's not far away.

Everyone mentions beers at Blackstump's, because he and his wife are such fantastic hosts.
