Do you want a say in where the next Myswag National Meet is to be held, or are you happy to let a select few make this decision??

I want some input.

My way of looking at it is;

Someone picks a place, sets the date, if people want to come and meet other members, it won't matter, if you pick a bush camp, the ones that don't like bush camping won't turn up and if you pick a van park, the ones that don't like van parks won't turn up.

I probably went a bit over the top with my reply when they changed the venue from what I thought was the perfect place to a van park, a sort of senoirs moment, when it's all said and done, it's all about the company and meeting new people.

I'm happy to let others make the decision, someone has too and it doesn't matter what is decided, your not going to please everyone.

One things for certain, there needs to be more than one or two involved in the orginising of things.

For setting the venue: It is good for people to throw ideas around but give it a date by when venue nominations have to be done by and then a vote from there.

For organising the event itself: It is great to have ideas from everyone but the old saying still rings true - You need one chief but many Indians.

For the Wilmington Meet alot of the longstanding SA members were invited to be on the Organising Committee and in the end there were three of us who were. Us three bounced ideas around back and forth and made decisions with a two majority rule.  It worked very well for us and the Meet ended up being a great success (in my biased opinion).

The first decision that needs to be made is the location (and not everyone will agree with it anyway), then the members from that state can work out between them who wants to be on their Organising Committee and who to appoint as their 'chief'.  If everyone wants to have their say and do it their own way then it will make it very difficult, but everyone having a say and putting it to a small Committee vote will make it a much smoother process - just my opinion.

I believe somebody needs to locate a location and date, and as others have said, they will come. Is this National Meet going to be a yearly or bi-yearly event???

I really like the model that another certain forum uses in getting National Meets organised and that is the one where they try to go to a community that could possibly benefit from an influx of lots of people. Sure, it might be cliched but I know that small towns really do appreciate visitors, living in one that makes an effort to make visitors welcome, I speak from experience there.

I see that the recent meet did also achieve that and if you also look at the camper trailers group recent visit to Baradine, the money they just injected into that town was awesome. I know, it's not what the meet is about...but I do think that it is a very good thing to think about and considering the tone of this forum, in regards to how we make an effort to help everyone, I could see how this could be an extension of this.

I voted that I would like input into the next venue...and there it was! :D

Flemo

I would have loved to go to the last one but bloody long way for a weekend. Surely east coast central to Vic, nsw and qld is the go for most of the time then every 3rd one is in another state nt, sa or wa? Did anyone from wa make it to sa? Everyone has limited holiday windows so you will never please everyone, there needs to be an iron fist that has the final say in case of disagreement!

albany_nomads

Good idea Flemo..rotate it state by state each year that way here in the West we have a chance every six years.
Or we can make it to SA or NT

I am not one for sitting in one place for the whole meet (5 odd days) so I am helping plan a Qld EO gathering next year where we will be together for around 10 to 12 days and moving around Central Western Qld. So you get to stay in van parks and do some bushing camping as well, plus you can join in or leave anywhere along the trip. Just some thing to think about when who ever organises the next annual meet.

I agree with Dutchess, a small jnland country town is a great idea, we(AULRO) just had a gathering near Dubbo and had a raffle and proceeds went to the local RFS, in return we got air time on ABC Radio on Macca's show, the locals love groups like this, it's good for the local economy, I know Mendooran was flat out when we were in town ;D

Making it central to as many states as possible is also essential in my view, unless you want it to be a state by state basis, WA is always going to be hard to cater for and only the diehard travellers will turn up.

Rotate the states (That state swaggers do the hosting & organising with help if they want/need it)
can be done similar to this "choice" Item :cup:
**one month per question***
Pick the date from a selection of different ones (if necessary)
Pick the site from a selection of suitable locations (being aware of restrictions ie... beer costs)
Try a theme night one near the beginning and one near the end. Organise a State of Origin skit (this will be a challenge) >:D

And there you have it, perfect place if it's offered, a team can dig long drops, bring your own showers and power.

It's fairly central to 4 states, it's amazing that sponsors are so willing to support this type of event, it just takes a phone call, we managed to get 7 sponsors, for a total of over $5000 worth of products, ranging from stubbie coolers to Maxtrax, $500 gift vouchers, snatch traps, food hampers and so on, there were some very happy campers at our gathering.

All you need is the right people to organise it and they have organised some good MySwag gatherings already.
