How do you season a camper if you have no room?

Hi all  :D

We're picking up our new CT on Saturday and are pretty sure we won't have room to set it up at home to season it. What is the best way to season it? Are we best to just wait until it rains when we're out in it, should we try a caravan park or is there another solution?

*Sorry if there are threads on this....I tried a search with no luck*

I had to set ours up sideways on the nature strip for the weekend.  We live in a quiet street.

Can't you ask a friend with a lawn to set up there?

We had the same issue. Just waited until it rained on our 2nd outing with it

I just parked mine on the road outside my house and let it open up onto my driveway. Then kept hosing it down all morning, then let it dry in the afternoon.

Seeing I have a zip in the floor I also hosed some areas inside (not around the bed of course) to speed up the process.

But I was told by the manufacturer when I picked ours up that hosing down at home does help, but camping in heavy rain with the canvas staying wet all night is the most effective way to season it.

Immediately plan to go camping in the northern region of Queensland.  Unseasonally early Spring rain see's them getting some flooding at the moment in some areas.  Apparently the tourists are complaining ... obviously don't have canvas to season.

Take my missus camping with you. Guaranteed to rain........

On a more serious note...Have you thought of what you are going to do if you go camping and are forced to pack up in the rain and come home with a wet camper?

It is a good point, and I guess taking it to a park to let it dry out would be our only option.
I don't think the space in your garden should deter you from having one, doesn't stop soccer mums driving landcruisers in the city.
?
Guess we ain't finished camping till the sun comes out, that's ok with me.

Sorry I won't be at work tomorrow my CT isnt dry.
Wonder if they have heard that excuse yet.

That's a damn good idea. I might have too look to sell the house and buy a small unit I reckon :D

I have only just got room, the awning must be off, and all cars out on the road. So it is a real pain to set up.  Plus I worry about bogans at night vandalising or stealing or something.

I have mostly been seasoning while camping, and only have very little leaking around a couple of seams, I dare say you'll similar, since we are talking abut the same tent! A bit of a rub with a wax stick seems to be working.

I am thinking of a big silver tarp and some poles, so that I can set this up 'over' the tent while away. But this might be overkill.  But of a pain while away, but perhaps better than drying out a wet tent at home.

I am sure some nice MYSWAG member would be happy to help you.

If you are in the Blue Mountains in NSW let me know. Happy for you to set it up in the yard and hose it down.

What about the local school? I am sure if you asked the Principal nicely they would let you use their oval (and maybe their hose) on a weekend??  Just a thought.

Thanks everyone. We are in warragul Vic so rain may not be a problem.
We will see how we go getting it into back garden

Cheers

most schools around here anyway wont allow kids to play on ovals on weekends anymore, unless its arranged sport (cricket, footy etc) due to terrification(word of the day being sued... dont like your chances of drivin on there.

So sad isn't it?  I am glad our community and local school arent like that (yet)..

+1.

It's rather damp here atm. Both my dogs have been well "seasoned" over the past 3 days.

Photo below was taken around this time yesterday, out the front of work.

Thanks!
Matto :)

Impressive puddles ;) we were living in cairns for 12 months last year and must have brought the drought with us. Bugger all rain (comparatively ;) )

Thanks mate, we got it setup in drive way yesterday and left it out in rain last night.
The canvas is thick and is well sealed. After the rain last night and no leaks I'm sure we are now ready to go.
Couldn't get the full awning up but that will give us something to figure out when we go out for the first time
