has anyone had problems with cooper stt tyres splitting near bead ?

OffRoadDave

I have heard of some coopers doing this before but unsure if it was the st or the stt, but it should be covered under warranty as that would be a pretty rare occurrence these days I would think.

Jon

There are stories going around of ST's and Dick Cepek FC2 splitting at the shoulder, not the bead though.
Again this would be a warranty issue.
I got a sweater for Xmas, really wanted a moaner or screamer.

Hi, On my third set of STT's now. Second set got a bit of a line around the bead but not what I'd have said was a split, more like a bit of a crack. Anyways, that set of tyres lasted around 60,000 and are now spares and on the campertrailer.

Hope this helps.

Cheers, Wayne

I had STT's on 2 Nissan patrols and whilst they didn't split, I had other issues with them. They wore badly and were impossible to keep in balance causing the steering to constantly shudder. These cars were both brand new, had about 20 wheel alignments between them and the wheels were re-balanced numerous times under warranty. In the end the coopers rep indicated that it was a common problem with these tires and offered to replace them with something else.

I have had my STT's on Nav for a year or more now and so far I' am still happy with them.
No problems at all...

Our Patrol wagon had a set on it when we bought it march 2010, no real dramas as yet, except lost a lug down to the belt on our last day trip (it was a pretty harsh shale track however). We bought a new set with 16" rims (to replace the 17" alloys) so touch wood they go alright too. We have slight Heel / Toe wearing on the front passanger side (on the old tyres) but that may be due to slight under inflation maybe. When we put the 16" ones on we will be able to see if it happens again.
