All 5 occupants survived with only minor injuries. One had to be cut from the vehicle. Very lucky, off to buy a Lotto ticket. The whole roof rack slide forward, lucky it didn't end up in the other vehicle.....

looking at the photo I would guess that the ladder has stopped the forward motion of the roof rack.

I agree, imagine if the ladder wasn't there. It could have been a different outcome.

Reading the article they are investigating a burn off in the area, maybe the road was smoked out and someone didnt slow down... who knows..

Red Earth Camper Trailer

Crosslander

No problems there - it will buff out  ;D

I wonder what the impact speed was.  Hard to tell ... the fact that the van is still attached makes me wonder.

Came very close to the firewall of the vehicle ... I think luck played a big role in that one.

When a hazard reduction is done signs must be put out advising that smoke may impact on the road. In my experience this seems to tell drivers to speed up and get away from the smoke faster or something. The signs are meant as a caution, Not telling people to speed up.
I'm not saying this is what happened, Just speaking from experience.

50kms east of Broken Hill??? Gees I go through there all the time and you cannot get a better road it is wide and flat, dead straight to for most of it. I cannot see how the controlled burn could have been a cause in this more likely driver fatigue.
