Ok Rugby Swaggers, I have a small problem...

My, No1 youngest daughter has decided to become captain for her local Touch Football team and that is OK, by she has lagged me in to be the coach, bugga...

Anyway, I do not know a thing about Touch Football or Rugby Football to save myself, for in my past life when I use to live in mexico, I eat, breathed, slept and played Aussie Rules, plus I barrack for Richmond (Go the Tigers..)

So some questions...

1/. What is Touch Footy anf how is Touch Footy played?
2/. How many in a team?
3/.What are the rules

Help.....

7 On each team
6 plays for each team before the ball is handed over.
Must play the ball where you were touched. - can not advance the mark.
A turnover occurs when - the ball is - dropped - passed forward - the dummy half is caught with the ball.
A penalty occurs when - the defensive team is offside - not back 10 meters from the play the ball.
The ball can not be kicked.

thats a start...still thinking..

There is not all that many "technical" rules in touch footy, its pretty straight forward. And being kids touch footy, the ref will step in and explain anything to them if need be  :cup: I dare say your job for a kids team would more involve rotating the players so they all get a fair amount of time on the field.  ;)

Just to expand on what Tagman posted a bit further....

After a player is touched, they must play the ball............which simply involves placing the ball on the ground and stepping over it. It is not played with the foot like in rugby league.

An offensive player can also perform a touch. This is often used when trying to promote the ball quickly to the other end of the field. The player with the ball simply just has to touch a defender and then play the ball. The dummy half can quickly pick up the ball and pass to another player while the defending side is still retreating their 10m

Dummy half cant be touched with the ball or score a try. Always have to have at least one pass before being touched or scoring a try.

A try (or touchdown) is worth 1 point.

A turnover of possession is also required if a player runs over the sideline while in possession of the ball.

Hope that helps.......good luck with it    It can be a very fast game, but a hell of a lot of fun.

OK,
But WTF is a Dummy Half, seriously, you blokes call a player a Dummy Half?
What does a Dummy Half do? should I ask?
Not taking the piss, but even the names of the players is confusing...

Al Coholic

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!  ;D

A dummy half is simply the player who picks up the ball after the play the ball from a team mate. Sometimes, this can be a designated player who has only that job to do or it can be done by whichever team mate is closet at the time. Depends on your team and how they prefer to play.

If you think dummy half is bad...........a play the ball is actually referred to as a "dump" (serious)   :cup:
