LED's use bugger all power, but trying to push that through small wire is ok for short distance.

As an example, my LED's are 60cm units wired with 0.5mm figure 8 speaker wire, The leads are 6 metres long and work fine.
However I have not tried thicker wire so this may give more light, not sure.
I got a sweater for Xmas, really wanted a moaner or screamer.

Volts, amps, resistance (lights and wire size) are all related, the larger the lights the more amps the less volts.
When we talk LEDs they are very very low amps so we can run smaller wire and still have right amount of volts at the end.
Just measure the volts at the battery and the volts at the light and if same, you've got it right.
