Brake Controller

Hi,

We have a Tekonsha brake controller (model3?) on our 2007 Hilux Diesel Auto 4wd ute and are towing a JAYCO Flamingo S/T 2011 outback camper.    Brake Controller was set up for us by the dealer we bought the camper from.  He drove around the block and did a couple of stops.  Was originally set at 6 but we found that when pulling to a stop driving slowly at traffic lights etc the camper brakes would grab and we would "hop" to a stop.  We have backed off the setting until now is less than 4 but still having the same problem.  Camper brakes are also locking at times in slow speed stops.

The Flamingo is the largest of the JAYCO campers and we are on the road full time with a fair bit of gear two water tanks etc. Likely to be 1 1/2 ton.  Toyota pulls camper easily. Fuel use is around
12.5 liters per 100 km towing at around 90 km/h.

Any suggestions re brake controller?

Boost setting?
Drop it down?

Power down, disconnect the plug to the unit for 5 mins and re-connect.

I tow the Swan which is the same size and similar weight as the Flamingo with my Diesel Prado, and have found 5.4 is perfect when full laden and both water tanks filled, and 5.2 when empty.
The Prado is manuel so using the gears to slow down might make a difference though.
Also use the Tekonsha

Our unit has four boost settings 0-3.  Was set on 1. Planning on dropping to 0.

Also look at the way you brakes are adjusted on the trailer. Ensure these are adjusted correctly.
