Collins Hut - vandalized for last time. maybe not

Got an email from 4wd Victoria today regarding Collins Hut.

Parks Victoria wanted to contact the club that was maintaining it - which is my club. Apparently it has been vandalized again, to the point of no return this time. They are pulling it down.    I will know more info tomorrow.

I hate vandals with a passion.
From an area on the Central coast tht suffers a lot of vandalism, this sort of thing sh1ts me to tears.
Council even built a skate park to help the "disadvantged" youth in the area.
After vandals burnt the toilt block and had a fire in the skate bowl, thereby destroying the concrete surface, council filled it in with dirt.

Dob in a vandal I say. Taggers fall into the same bucket 'o Shite too.

Worked with criminal youth for some time. Respect should be a school subject 'cause the 'little darlings' dont learn it at home. That's for damn sure.

Ive experienced what some other low life scumbags did to a few of the huts up on Bogong some years back ... if only we were a few days earlier cos there are such big strong trees going to waste up there, that could have been put to great use if they were caught by us .......... I've been told Koalas don't care if someones hanging around them for awhile..... maybe i can oblige if you catch them i have rope and chain.

yeah look i know where ur comming from but in my dealings, people know right from wrong and the thug probably still has a thug inside.there are heaps of us adults around that were wild when we where teenagers  .... BUT we knew right from wrong .

I was at Collins Hut earlier  this yr with the club and we looked at the hut than and it was in a very bad state of repair so it looks like there been up there since and done more damage.  I agree they make it hard for the rest of us to enjoy.

Sorry but I have to disagree. I grew up pretty rough and wouldnt take a backward step. I also did all the stupid stuff, jumping of railway bridges, car surfing, under age drinking, there wasnt much I wouldnt do, except damage others property. People who senslessly damage property are oxygen thieves. If they get caught they should be made to help rebuild it or clean up their mess.

Where do these outstanding examples of the human race get their model of how to act and behave?  Think carefully now......Home!  Got it in one!  Parents and family - has to be....
If my family can kick the s*&t out of the rental, then it's OK to do the same elsewhere.  Who's Collin and does he still own this hut?  Looks a bit crap.  I don't think anyone owns this so lets do it over like a rental......

Throw hormones, drugs and alcohol and the destructive bent becomes a massive force.  We have a generation (not all) that have a "no consequence" mentality and this is reinforced in schools because they cannot physically enforce consequences.  It's a fine line between consequence and punishment and the current thought is soft consequence.  The thinkers get this and respond.

The others don't and go vandalize something.  Modeling.....none.

It starts at home....and ends up in the High Country.

Well the latest update is there is a meeting this weekend with Parks to decide what will happen. There are 3 clubs willing to rebuilt Collins, and as well another - Horseyard Hut which has had the same fate probably from same IQ less scrotes... Early reports say Horseyard looks like they will remove all walls and turn it into a gazebo style thing Another loss really.

This is from one club member from another club who has seen the Collins Hut recently.

Dropped in to Collins hut on the way home from Lankey Plain on the June weekend .
The track in has been bulldozed since I last visited and is now like a highway. (THIS IS WHAT I SEE AS THE PROBLEM - TOO EASY FOR SCROTES TO GET IN)
As for the hut being  beyond repair is a slight exaggeration .
- The Hut is clad with AC sheeting /non asbestos and the vandals have punched holes in the walls on two sides ,about 5 sheets to replace. 
- They have also smashed all but the kitchen window.
- The veranda post is also missing.
- Their is also excessive graffiti on the walls and my opinion would be to paint this over.

In another disappointing twist is there were some photos taken last year of people damging the hut, this was reported and nothing has happened. Why bother...

Anyway, will see what happens from here.

Rebuild it with the oldest most toxic asbestos sheeting that can be found. Paint it properly so that users aren't exposed, but the next time these scumbags smash it up they'll go away with a bit more than dope in their lungs.

This is the sort of thing that will see remote CCTV systems going into all NPs at some stage, great for catching dirtbags but not so good for the whole civil liberties thing.
