Hi Guys,

Can anyone ID this snake for me please? Just found him out in the yard in suburban Brisbane... He slid off into the garden so I need to know if he's going to be a problem for my dog....

He's about 1m long, vivid yellow underneath, pretty dull up top.

Thanks,
Bryan

Tree snake, up here the locals call them night snakes. They lurve the green tree frogs which live on the wall in between our house and garage. Ever heard a frog screaming. I occaionally find a half-chewed piece of tree snake in the yard so they don't seem to be giving the dogs any problems.

Ha! Funny you send a link to that website - that creek is about 100m away!

I thought he looked like a tree snake but he was so yellow underneath it got me wondering.

Thanks CD!

I have a dislike of snakes, just do, it's probably a fear thing. But your right, most times people are bitten are when they are trying to handle them or kill them even with shovels etc. Best just to leave them alone, except for browns or tigers here ( and taipans up north) they are quite timid.
Here for a good time, not a long time!

Green Tree Snake.  "Dendrelaphis punctulatus".  Non - venomous.  There is also a blue variety of this little critter.

cheers

What a beautiful little specimen!   :cup:  Nice photos too.

Seen those south of Darlington and up near the loo's at Peach Trees.  Just a thought for those wary of snakes ... even snakes handled since birth bite their owners ... don't look like a mouse or rat ... don't get near the head end.  The Man feeds his Carpet python with the longest set of tongs we could buy ... and even that still looks dangerous!  But Monty (yes that's it's name) is a calm snake any other time.

Thanks for your input everyone.

He's probably the reason my dog has been constantly wanting to go and sniff a certain part of the yard for the past few months. We get a few blue tongues around but haven't seen a snake here in 10 years. Makes me wonder what else is hiding in my jungle :)

I work in a garden that runs all the way to the Yarra river Blue tongues & Tiger snakes through out . The funny thing is thats only 5KM from Melbourne CBD . That keeps you on your guard when weeding  . Last week a baby Tiger was run over in the street ,,,, where is the rest of the family  ???

They are completly harmless just have look and let it get onwith it,s life,

If they bother you that much just pick it up and take it out in the bush and let it go.

Squalo

Yep no need to kill it.

In SEQ browns are the only real problem. There are more blacks around than browns though, and you should never ever get rid of a black because they keep the browns away.

Yep, a common tree snake, had one today I disturbed in a contactor box amongst the mains, I guess he was just snoozing the winter away till I disturbed him, boy was he pissed, and with my head between phases on live LV I was just as unimpressed at his aggression, he must have woken up on the wrong side of the bed :o

Pauly

Andrea you must have a miserable old man fair dinkum. Your pregnant and its your birthday but the old man still makes you work high voltage power lines, what a scrouge. ;D

Yeah as most say its a tree snake, pretty harmless really no need to chop it, it will help keep pests down.

Cheers Pauly

From what i,ve heard, this was taken at Cardwell, north Qld, after Yasi. Of course, i could have been mislead, but it looks like an amathystine python, to me.

Will do,  if I can't be camping, due to work commitments, I may as well do the next best thing and have a beer with a fellow swagger. I've got a couple of months at home comming up but after that I'll be in the bay area once or twice a month.  I seem to be able to find my way to the sleeze breeze ok!
