On closer inspection of the photo I suspect that you maybe correct. I am presuming that the crop growing in the background is sugar cane, and last time I drove through Maitland i.e. last weekend I dont recall seeing any sugar cane growing there. It would appear that a few people including myself have been sucked in and taken for a ride on this one!

We get both Blacks and Browns here, my neighbour has a resident black under his pool waterfall and I see a Brown next to his fence so I recon its a wifes tale also :D

I would agree that it is a python of some kind.  I have been told that it wasn't at Cardwell, but somewhere else just south of Townsville.

At one of the properties we lived at we had heaps of snakes, Mainly brown. So much sho i bought my wife a pump action 12 gauge and i kept 6's in it. Anyway i was walking to the shed one day and nearly stepped on a brown snake, and as i was giving it a swerve i nearly stood on a black snake. I think no one had told these pair the rule.
