Hi all.

Just a quick question. When not using the fridge, between trips that is, do you

a. leave the fridge in the car/ camper.

b. leave it open to air, or leave it closed?

Is there an issue with moisture build up etc?

Thanks

Hi V8TL8,
I tend to leave mine a tad open, always has a fresh smell in it the next time to be used.

Same mate, My car only gets used when the fridge gets used so i just prop the lid open with a towel or somthing . You will be sorry if you dont.

I leave mine slightly open when not in use and it's always dry and fresh and ready to go.  Oh, I do this by wedging a stubby holder between the lid and the wall where the internal light switch is so that it gets pressed down and the fridge light does't burn 24/7

Yep, open. I just fold a small cloth up and sit under the lid so its open 10-15mm.
But as from Saturday it will be closed tight for the next three months ;D

Ours comes out of the Navara, emptied (we always take more food than we can possibly use) and cleaned.
It is left opened a bit and stored in the shed with an old sheet over it to keep the dust out.
If you ever seen my shed you would understand the need for the sheet  ;D

I like to store my fridge plugged into 240v and turned on full off beer under the pergola. They make an awsome beet fridge. Engel rep once told me best way to store my fridge was to never turn it off. Never had any problems since.

Yep same, generally left on at home. If its turned off, I give it a clean and leave the lid open.

Another one for leaving it on all the time in the Patrol or in the store room for keeping cans cold

I always clean the engel after a trip, then back in the shed and on. Have a beer fridge, so turn it to 1 and pop a bottle of water in. Done that all its life and its 10 years old. This way its ready to go if were going shopping or just out for the day and I was also told when I bought it to leave it on.

I used to keep mine on 240V all the time if it wasn't in the Prado as I thought this was good for it. When I had the thermistor fixed the repair guy said don't bother leaving it on.

This thread has reminded me I need to prop the lid as it has been closed up for a while.

Stays in the back of the Patrol lid slightly open use it all year for frozen stuff when shopping

Wow thanks everyone.

Good to see consensus!

Leave fridge full, close and powered on.

or

unplug, leave open.

I like the towel trick, and will use that while I keep the fridge still empty in the car in between short trips.

Thanks all.

I turn it off between uses and clean after each trip and give a wipe down with vanilla essence and place a stubby holder between lid and body, so smells nice and then never forget stubby holder ,always packed with fridge
