If you don't want to hang around camp and are looking to get into nature there is the option of taking yourself on a day trip to Mt. Remarkable National Park, incorporating Alligator Gorge.

Access from National Highway One is via a picturesque drive commencing 1km south of Wilmington on Main North Rd to Alligator Gorge (13km)

Alligator Gorge within Mount Remarkable National Park is the premier natural attraction in the Southern Flinders Ranges. This spectacular gorge cut through ancient quartzite by the Alligator Creek is easily accessible to visitors along a 10 minute walking trail. Toilets, a picnic area and barbecue facilities are provided for visitors who can spend an hour or full day exploring the network of walking trails surrounding the gorge. Wildflowers and native orchids are abundant through spring.

For the more adventurous, there are also several bushwalks you can do.  For more information on them and a map (click where it says 'More Information') click on the following link:

We called in at Alligator Gorge on our way home recently after the guy at the Wilmington campground told us about it.  We didn't have time to do the walks, just went to the two lookouts and had a gander.  Great views and we plan on going back one day

You need a Parks pass or pay a daily entry fee to go there.
