A 16-year-old boy has died and two family members injured in an explosion at a Mandurah caravan park, south of Perth in Western Australia.

Such a sad thing to read about.

Going camping with the family is a great family bonding experience and this would be the last thing you'd expect.

Shocking - I camp at Point Plomer a lot which is where that gas bottle blew up earlier this year - I know (by saying hello to and having beers with) most ofl those involved in that. It goes out of the news fast but I understand the little boy in that is still fighting for his life. Very sad.

This is one of the reasons I'm so paranoid in checking the gas connections every time I setup and every couple of days after that.

Very sad.

Crosslander

yes well i don't check enough - however that will be changing.  In fact will be trying to get away from using gas as much as possible.

When I first connected the gas on my camper I wasn't aware there was an o-ring missing on the connector. Cut a long story short after checking the stove worked and starting the 3 way fridge I went outside the camper and smelt gas. Checked the connection with soapy water and there were more bubbles than Michael Jackson so I turned it off. Fitted a 10cent o-ring to the connector and no more leak. There are so many different connector designs it is hard for a non-plumber to work out if they require o-rings or not.

Unfortunately this bloke seems to have been living there waiting for rental accom so i don't think he was on a family holiday. Irrespective, I couldn't imagine what it would be like to be in his situation right now.

It is sad, even more so that he wasn't voluntarily camping there. My condolences to the family

Very sad. My condolences to their family and friends at such a terrible time.

We had a mishap with a gas connection this weekend which, whilst quite funny at the time, was actually potentially serious. We didn't think much of it, but this has certainly bought home the consequences that are possible when dealing with such a high-pressure fuel. I know I'll be more vigilant in future - if this makes others more careful and less blasé as well, it might prevent future tragedies and then at least some lasting good may come from such a heartbreaking situation. It's not much comfort when facing the loss of a whole family, but you take what you can get.

Respectfully,
Matto :(

Condolences to the whole family. Heard the father and daughter passed this morning as well. An extremely sad end to a family holiday - I hope the reported findings don't find human error. Just tragic.

Respectfully, Mel

Apparently not a holiday but waiting for permanent housing

Very sad and unfortunate that they were forced to live in a tent because of the unaffordable costs of living in Western Australia, these capitalists that are on six figure incomes buy houses to rent out and think that they should charge rent at a cost more than the mortgage repayments, does not help the strugglers on low income get ahead in life.

My understanding is the witnesses questioned have stated they heard the screams and have seen the flames as high as the trees *before* the gas bottle exploded

I assume the tent caught fire first, then the heat created exploded the gas bottle ?

The wife was not staying in the caravan park with the husband and teenagers on the night

Such a tradgedy and a sad reflection on our society when familes have to resort to living in tents cause they can either no longer afford to rent or there is no rental accommodation available.

A tragic waste of life that no words could explain.

Is it a cold area where they were? maybe a heater in the tent?

From what I read, he sounds like a very dedicated dad to his kids... very sad  :'(

Would not be cold enough to have a heater going
