squeaky bunk bed solutions?

We have a set of double bunk beds. The kids love them, but they squeak when they move around on them.

While it is a good way of letting us know that the young fella needs to go wee wees I reckon it has to stop. The other night I had a dream my father was sending morse code messages and woke up to find it was the noisy bunk beds.

Has anybody got a good solution?

I was going to sat Talc powder, but graphite like D4D mentioned could be better.

What sort of bunk

? hard to say unless we know what is rubbing to squeak. I would say silicon spray if it is metal/metal or plastic. Graphite is likely to rub off and stain bedding. Any way u can tighten it

They are metal bunk beds which slot together. It is where they join together that they squeak. They can't be tightened so I guess I will be trying the silicone spray or graphite powder. I'm not sure that that will work but I will give it a go.

Gday Lex,
We have the same problem, squeaks & creaks all night

. I think ours are squeaking in protest of the weight, none of the kids are "delicate".I'm thinking I might give our bunks a rub with some Drylube on the joint area & see if it helps.

If they are the oz trail style ones, I think that they squeak where the tramponline runs over the bars. We quietened ours down by putting talc on the material where it runs over the bars. Not sure how long term it will be.

Could you put a bolt through with some washers and a butterfly nut to tighten the join when it's together??
I have even seen some thick washers that have the curve of the tube but not sure what they are called.....

How tight is the joint? I remember when we were kids having some bunks that had a flared end on one pole so the other slid in. There were slightly large for the poles so Dad wrapped some electrical tape around the pole to take up the slack. stopped any squeaking too!

It's funny that I have come back to see this post. I was just over in the shed and tried the exact same thing. It seemed to be the answer.
