The recently calculated geographical centre is at 25º36'36."4S and 134º21'17."3E, approximately 200km south of Alice Springs. The centre is known as the Lambert Centre, the Geographic Centre of Australia.

Following receipt of the calculation the RGSA, Queensland, placed a plaque on the site in 1988.

Why are we only talking main land Australia as Tassie is just a tad more south then the Southern most Point – Wilsons Promontory, Victoria and it is Australia.  I will stand corrected but I think it is Cockle Creek Tasmania, wish we could have spent more time there, such a peaceful place it is surreal and unreal at the same time
Cheers

I gotta get out more   :-[ :-[

Byron Bay -  8)
Lake Eyre -  ??? Maybe - It was a negative altitude but not -15 M though ..
Wilson's Prom - didn't walk to the tip though - :-[
None of the rest ...
Going back to basics - sort of ...

Agree with Cockle Creek Tasmania. The road there is also the most southerly road in Australia you can drive on, and then you have to do a walk to the southernmost point. (Not withstanding other islands.)  Fantastic camping grounds!
You could also ask, what is the highest mountain in Australia, including its territories?  ???
