ok guys, i've turned on my Waeco today in preparation for our Fraser trip on Thursday.

While the temperature inside feels nice and cool (i've got a thermometer on it right now and i'll know exactly how cool it is soon, but in the mean time the digital display shows it is at 30 degrees.

now, this only really concerns me because i have a feeling that the compressor will run continuosly if it uses that as it's guide. so, can anyone confirm if this is the case, which will surely lead to me have flat batteries while i'm away.

Evening,
The Old Man had a similar issue turned out to be the thermostat, once he had that replaced all is good.

Hi Silvo,

Have had my Waeco back to the repair guys 3 times in the last 4 - 5 weeks for the same issue. I should be picking it up again in the next couple of days and I will see what they say.

I also noticed that mine was running continuously when set to -18. It would only get to about -15 after 2-3 day running on 240v on the built in thermometer but when I would put the external thermometer it was reading -23.

Sounds like the same problem to me. Will let you know what they say.

wiseone

Hey Silvo and Idlegossip, what model Waeco's do you have and about how old are they? Also are they the newer Ver B controls?

I have a similar issue and there appears to be a pattern developing? ??? >:(

Mine has had a Thermistor replaced and now Waeco are suggesting to the repairer that the new Thermistor is maybe faulty.  I'm finding this hard to believe that the original and the replacement are both faulty with the same behaviour?

Attached photo shows the fridge set to minus 13, room temp at +15 and Freezer at -24 and compressor running (all the time)?

I had the same fault in mine and it was fixed under warranty. Seemed like a regular fault going by the comment from the service agent.

Hi Wiseone,

I have cf 60 VERB that is just on 3 years old. Will mention this to my repairer when I pick up the unit and see what he has to say about it.

LC

when ours is set to -20° it runs all the time, presumed this was normal for it in "freezer mode". But when set to 2° it cycles on and off and works fine.

I had the same problem with my 40 L Waeco when traveling down the West Coast a  couple of years back.
I had it back in 3 days, they let me borrow a fridge until mine was fixed.

i called a few service places today. they can't get the part for 2-5 working days, which puts it neatly after easter weekend, then, they couldn't fix it for a few days anyway, which puts it close to the end of april, just when i return from my trip.

so, with a little googling, i've seen a few posts on forums saying the thermistor isn't hard to replace..

i go to jaycar and buy 2, i figure if i install 1, i may as well install a spare in case i have the same issue in the future.

$1.35 each..

i open the case up from around the compressor, and start cutting into the insulation of my $1200 fridge.. a little nervous now, but i take about 4 inches of insulation away until i found the white case of the fridge inner. i wired up the thermistors and ran them back to the circuit board. filled the hole i cut out with foam insulation from a can.. and now i'm just waiting for the oil to settle so i can test it.

The temp senders also fall off their mount and give a false reading, It could have been that.

ok.. the thermistor replacement looks promising..

the display actually shows a temperature, instead of just climbing to 30 degree.. and the compressor is cycling..

i think i've create another problem though, i may have run the thermistor too close to the refrigerant piping, and the reading isn't that accurate.. but, this should be an easy fix now that i'm happy this is the problem - it just means pulling it apart again.

For the short term Dan, it doesn't matter too much what the reading is....as long as the fridge is working OK............if say on a reading of -4   the fridge wasn't freezing your beers and they were nice and cold, then that is your new zero setting...
