I stayed in one on the southern side of town through the Gap in the range.  Was nice ...  Sorry I don't recall the name.

We rolled up there last May, Just managed to grab a site. We went to 3 parks. Only stayed in town to have the car serviced. I would recommend you book with the amount of people in your group. We camped out at Ellery Creek Big hole it was good out there.

Back in 2009 we called into Alice Springs for two nigths camp, now we usually stay in MAc Range park but you can imagine my shock when they wanted $68/night for un powered site, no thanks. Heritage park was just as bad(have stayed there 3 or 4 times also) so we called into Gday Mate for a price check. $30/night, clean park, clean ammenities. This is where we will be staying from now on if we need a park in Alice Springs.

Like the others we also stayed at the big4. (Not Gidday Mate, which is across the road).

You do need to book, no ifs or buts though.

We stayed at the Big 4 also and it is a nice camp with jumping bag etc for the kids. However if you want something a bit more basic you can camp at some of the gorges in the east and west mac ranges and the scenery is just awesome. most sites have drop loos and barbys.

We've stayed at Macdonnell Ranges (Big 4) and it is really excellent, but of course not cheap.  We've heard good reports from friends about G'day Mate across the road from Big 4.

We've also stayed at Wintersun at the north end of town.  It's quite okay as caravan parks go, all the usual amenities, friendly staff, but the neighbours living adjacent to the park are very noisy at night - fights, barking dogs, roosters etc.  We were camped close to the back fence, so maybe okay if you're up in the middle of the park area.

Thanks.  I'll bet that was it ... certainly wasn't the flash one with fancy facilities to keep kids occupied.  Reasonable rates, clean facilities.  I also like the book exchange in the laundry ... you take one and leave one ... which kept the next few nights busy.  The Oldies stored the van there very cheaply whilst we tented it to the Rock.

Both the g'day mate and big 4 at Mcdonnell range are very good parks. The big 4 does provide a lot of entertainment during the peak season such as pan cake cook ups (free pancakes for travelers) and campfire concerts. Fairly expensive but a great playground and jumping pillow for the kids too. As I live in Alice, if anyone wants more info on any of the parks, please pm me. Bookings are essential from april onwards. All parks are very full during peak season.

Can also recommend the BIG 4 for a good place to stay, and also agree to book ahead.

As a slight deviation from your question is a plug for Badgers Australian Caravan Park Reports http://acpr.myparklist.com, a site we have used for years. It is free to join, you can look up parks by Park, Town, Region, Route, etc, and the reports are from fellow travellers. I have found the overall reviews to be quite honest and we have found some great places to stay. We tend to use it when we need a suds for bodies and clothes and book a couple of days ahead. Another option is Wikicamps, which gets good reviews from people we have spoken to.

Have fun in the Alice, I am sure you will love it.

I think Big 4's target families.......they generally had playgrounds, pool, jumping pillow etc........

We Stayed at The Big4 MacDonnell Range Holiday Park in June for the week up to Queens Birthday 2015, and paid $55.00/night for an ensuite powered site for the week. And that was a bloody busy time for them, because it's when the Finke Desert Race is held.
4.2L TD Toyota Troopy, (Clarke's Country Camper Trailer, softfloor.) sold it and bought a Avan Ray small poptop caravan.

We have spent some time in Alice over the years.   In our last feed back form to Big 4 we said that they had outpriced themselves as we don't have kids, weren't interested in the jumping pillow or the other childlike toys they provide, it was cold and we couldn't swim and they were still charging $55.00 per night...... Gidday Mate is pretty good from all reports and we would have stayed there except the site they would allocate was a bit tricky with our camper trailer.   lots of other parks around so would have to check them out for yourself.... Heritage is our next choice now.
Book early.
Cheers
