Premier Mike Rann is poised to buckle under pressure and declare Arkaroola Sanctuary a national park.
The move will ban mining in the park and sets the scene for a legal stoush with minerals explorer Marathon Resources, which is currently prospecting in the area, 700km north of Adelaide.

I owe, I owe, it's off to work I go...

I can't believe he let them drill there in the first place.

Hopefully Marathon will pack it's bags and get out of there sooner than later - and I hope Ranndy does the same!!!

When it comes to mineral exploration, there is no respect of anything. The bottom line is that anything can be destroyed to get the voter cheap consumer goods. I've seen true maps of some NPs in NSW and mining leases were like shot gun blast through it.

The paper has made this story up, there has been nothing from Mike Rann or his advisors released about this.

Arkaroola is a truly spectacular place and the Governmenment should never have allowed exploration drilling there in the first place >:( >:( >:(

Arkaroola is truly spectacular and I will check it out more one day , the Painted desert is another area that is at risk from exploration I believe a quote from an old wise American Indian goes something like  " Only when they work out that they cannot eat money will they realise their error " this also applies to our natural beauty.
