Hi,

We are building a new house are 3-4 weeks away from moving in, and I want to start filling the shed. We are insured with GIO and I rang them about three weeks ago to see if our contents in the shed at the new address could be covered under our existing policy. The answer was yes, as soon as the house is at lock-up. The house is now at lock up and GIO's policy has changed and we are no longer able to do this. They don't have any product that will cover our gear that is in the shed.

I'm just wondering if anyone has had any experience with our situation or any solution?

Thanks,

Paul

switch insurer. when i priced it through suncorp they would cover all my tools that are stored under my house. so i don't see how that is any different to a shed. a shed is probably more secure.

Thanks  me217,

I think the problem is that we are not living there yet. When we move in, no probs.

I had the exact same conversation yesterday with my Insurer (Elders).

I have just built a shed on a 9 acre block of land, but don't live there yet.

I insured the shed, and asked about contents insurance, as I intend to start moving 'stuff' out there within a month.

They said to hold off on contents insurance until the day you move stuff in, then take out contents insurance, but don't take out too much more than you actually need.

The reason was, that it is expensive to have contents insurance for a shed, when you don't live on the property. As soon as we move out there, it becomes cheaper.

I won't ever have anything uninsured.

The shed is insured, and I will take out contents insurance as soon as I put stuff in the shed.

No problems.
