Looking for a 2 stage bottle jack for the Cruiser
« on: January 15, 2018, 09:39:57 PM »
Want to replace the standard wind up job with something that's a bit easier to use.
Anyone recommend a good brand/supplier?
Cheers, John.

An exhaust jack would do all of that.
Just pop the bag under the car fit the pipe on the exhaust and up it goes.
Just need a puncture kit as well, vulcanising patches probably best.

The Omega jacks are pretty popular in Landrover circles (cue the Land Rover jokes here 😂). For the Discos they need to be small but with a big height extension. I use this one. Obviously they come in different capacities and lengths.

If you only want to jack a wheel I would go for a low profile two stage jack that will fit under the front wishbone and back axle, these
are great as it takes very little effort to jack a wheel to change a tire, if you find you can't get it in under the wishbone with a flat then
digging out a little dirt or running the wheel up a level ramp if you tow solves the problem, you could also carry a small block of wood
for the same purpose. Also good for just jacking the wheel of a van, lot safer than having the car or van jacked up high just
to change a wheel etc.

I bought a Draper 4T 2 stage hydraulic bottle jack off fleabay for $200 landed. Its compact and lifts to around the 600mm mark by memory. It came from UK, price included postage around 3 years ago. Some sellers postage costs were as much as the jack, others postage were under $20, go figure. Dont know where their stuff is made, but its reasonable quality.

The Sprinter ones are easiest to get from UK sadly, but they do come up here... most of the wreckers almost have waiting lists for em :( I tried for months, but I guess any of those larger vans would be similar/same ???
