Having belted myself in the head pulling nails with vice grips, pliers and the like before, I can say from experience that you need these:
http://www.excaliburtools.com.au/index.php/products/nail-piers/hl1121-510278a7682a3-detail

Does it like a dream, next to no effort even with massive nails, just put them on and rock it over the rounded bit.  I've pulled 4 inch nails out with only the head showing with them.  Took more than one easy movement, but you can give them a few taps with your palm and get even pull screws out if you really have a go when you don't realise that the thing you've grabbed is a screw and not a nail...

I bought mine after I had to pull up the masonite over the kitchen floor, some bugger had put staples in it every couple of mm and it was an absolute pain to pull them all with normal pliers.  Still took forever with the extractors but was much less effort.

These will do it also. Every chippy I know uses something like these.

Normal pliers just don't work, as theo found out.

Bloody hell mate! Go straight for the replacement screw ins. Don't give him $4k now + another $12k in two years if you have dramas.

Ouch!

update..

well now dentist reckons that a crown veenerr might not last very long and a screw in would be better....Thats bloody great after you put the post in I say..Ok from here on discussions first then $$$ and work done..

So anyway after a bit of a discussion with him the specalist and the good old dental nurse (who i trusted more)

I will get an acrylic crown..

not as strong as enamel one
less than half the price
colour not as good
less than half the price

So the concern is that due to the damage to the tooth the post may fail and hence the whole shebang failing .. so agreed better to go in at a lower $$$ investment if doing a crown

total costs now down to $2200

i am happy with this outcome as he has done 2 fillings on the teeth either side as well, so if the smashed tooth fails in 2 years I will just re assess, but if it fails it is most likely to loose the acyclic rather than the post and filler as the acyclic is weaker so a built in weak point to save the post.

specialist said he has replaced 3 acyrilcs on same patient over 10 years ..but if it was enamel it would have been non repairable after first one.

So i said ..."oh ok bit like CV joints on a GQ ...better to change a CV than whole axle and hub "  for some reason he did not understand..... ??? ???

Well I have a temporary tooth in there for 10 days until the lab makes my new one ;D ;D

So at least I will have a smile, Lara said she would not be seen with me if I was still missing a tooth so just scraped in on that front.

Don't worry it's not long to Christmas.
Sing...
All I want for Christmas is my two front teeth, my two front teeth, my two front teeth.
Oldmate don't laugh too hard...I remember something you did while working at my place...looks like Harry potter now.
