Old Fridge basket - Best way to refurbish?

Our Evakool has lasted for many years. At least 15 years from memory.  A damn fine fridge.
Don't really want to get rid of it as it is still showing no signs of needing retirement.
The basket however has now seen better days.

Tried to wire brush the plastic off it so I could paint it, but wasn't real successful. Some just won't come off.

Now considering getting it sandblasted or maybe bead blasted?
Or will that be too extreme?

Anyone got any tips for getting that old plastic coating off?

Have looked around for new baskets and finding a basket the right size is proving difficult

Have a look around for a place that does plastic dipping. They could probably remove (melt) the old coating off and replace it.

You used to be able to get "plastic spray" to cover stuff like that. (I remember the ad where they sprayed a strainer basket, then were able to hold water in it!)

That may work, but don't know if you can still get it, or where

not to channel 4wd 24/7...

but could you raptor coat it... with a Raptor can I mean...

like.. get a (soft ish) wire wheel for your drill and clean the loose plastic off it.

then Raptor it.

There us a plethora of wire basket manufacturers who will, for  a price, make you a new one.

Costly but may be a better option.

It may sound environmentally unfriendly, but I would burn the plastic off in a cool fire, wire-brush or rust treat it and then get it powder-coated. Or if I was totally honest, I'd be asking, "do I really need to have everything in a basket?' Plenty of things go in home fridges and freezers not in a basket.

The main attraction of the baskets is you can pack them up in the house and carry them out to the car in one trip.
Plus the smaller basket keeps more fragile things like eggs separate up on the shelf away from any rogue beer cans

But I like the burning idea - sounds quicker than the wire brush

Ive replaced the baskets in most of my fridges with corflute plastic sheeting. After having a stubby cap wear a hole in one of my engels evap plate basically making it useless I started using the 3mm coreflute sheeting like they make signs out off. I just cut it to fit in the base and then another cut and folded to fit around the sides. Its easy to ut and bend and doesnt affect how fridge works.
