Had the same happen to me except on returning to the car I had a $40 ticket from the police and yep right on top of it was a $160 fine from council for exactly the same infringement.

Council ticket was issued 40mins after police! When I questioned the different amounts I was given some bullShit about it being a public holiday.

Didn't pay either and haven't heard anything since. That was a few years ago.

Remember that common sense is not common anymore. The sign says no parking so there is no parking sorry.

Very true..
But....
Ask yourself how stringently you follow rules and if you ever ignore them circumstantially.  ie Have you ever rolled through a stop sign/broken speed limits at 3am/turned right out of a car park that says no right turn etc all when there is nobody within sight?
Doing these things is breaking a council by law or main roads rule, but none of them are hurting mankind as a whole. Yes we are not empowered to make our own decisions with regard to the law, but that's exactly what each of us has to do every day of our lives : make decisions on how we live.
Its too easy to take the high moral ground on issues like this yet I would bet my house we all "bend" rules and selectively follow them to our own advantage on a daily basis.  How many of us really scrutinise our recycling waste properly? etc etc..

More of the same,a lot of people seem to think that it's ok to break the law if it suits them and then justify the fact. Yes I did it but it's ok because '!!!!!!!!!!!

I never said I don't do anything wrong. But if it says no parking you can't crack up that you got caught. Just like if you roll through a stop sign. If you do the crime you do the time.

Agree 100%, but if you get fined don't complain about it or try and justify it haha!!!!!

I'm sure we've all knowingly broken the law hoping to get away with it. But on those odd occasions you do get caught you can hardly claim it happened because of your naivety!

I think trying to apply logic in these situations is fraught with danger. I feel for the O.P. but as Nomad said I think you are just going to have to cop it on the chin.

It's a bit like getting a parking ticket for over staying in a council multi storey car park that is devoid of cars.  Sure the council enforce parking restrictions  so everyone gets a fair go but if the car park is empty then should that matter and therefore should they enforce their rules?

Exactly, if I follow the op's logic I should be able to park in a disabled spot if it's too windy/ raining/hot/cold or whatever. How about parking in a bus zone when there's no buses?

My mrs used to be notorious for parking in non-authorised parking spots, and used to give me grief if I didn't do the same... "It's only for a couple of minutes" etc.. etc...

Well that's all stopped now  ;D She found out the hard way that it costs well over $400.00 (can't remember exact figure) if you park in a disabled parking spot..... "only for a couple of minutes".

Unfortunately that's what it takes to make some people do the right thing.

My mrs for years would reverse out the driveway and cruise off and eventually get her seatbelt on a street or two away. Well guess what, she got nabbed, and bitched, and I laughed and laughed.
