Personally, I think they should all go back and watch the movie, "The Road"......

Even with 2 years stock of dry food, how are they going to survive after that.....

thanks for reminding me, almost out of beer nuts....... ;D

I'm not sure how successful it would have been though. Fall out and bush fires would have killed his permaculture garden and the preserved food and bottled water would only last so long. I think I'd rather go up in the fireball than slowly starve with radiation sickness :-[.

Yep. A better use of time than stockpiling would be practicing to bend over backwards to kiss your arse goodbye

I think the Prepper psychology is about seeking to see their genes survive to another generation...  post an EOTWAWKI event...

If that's the case - its a very similar driver to most of the subjects on any David Attenborough episode...

Animals surviving; and killing; and mating; to protect/improve/and to pass on their genes...

But I reckon when AI finally takes over - what we all worry about will be redundant anyway ...

Welcome to the Matrix...

Doomsday Perppers   is that like when the beer truck is bogged or late or worse runs out of fuel .  My idea is to be under the bomb/wave/fire/terrist event  . Then its not a real problem .
lts when you run out of Grog then the Sh1t hits the fan .Remember the dinosaurs looked over his shoulder as it all turned to Mud  & said " Ohhhh Sh1111t "

There is no way that would have worked. If he is 14m* from the door, then I'll eat my hat.

But it was in a movie so it must be true . ;D ;D
Lets not forget about the danger radius of the blast either  ;D
I found carrying the 203 was a lot better than lugging the M79 around  ..Though for firing and reloading, I prefered the 79..

Ahh, yes, the M79.
It was always funny watching the new bloke dive to the ground the the wombat gun swinging around and smacking him in the back of the head ;D.
Not so funny when it happens to you :-[.

in the states at least - DDPers have elaborate plans and contingencies to safeguard against marauding  hordes....    these plans start and end with a rain of big bullets

And most all make the same mistakes as their ancestor  inspired ways  have always done right from the dark ages and cowboys and indians.. Build a nice little fort out in the middle of nowhere on a hill clear all around it and arm it to the teeth ..

Yeah, but if ya sneaks up and pumps CO2 into the vents................problems solved.

BaseCamp

Yeah....   but for real DDPers ....   think sentries; watch towers; IR surveillance; tripwires; long escape tunnels; decoy BOLs that invaders can be seduced into and distroyed; multiple redundant safe houses / dens for alternative BOLs; tons of ordinances; and things to trade, (as a last resort) .....   ie: medicines; food; tools; sex slaves etc etc...

Many believe that in a EOTWAWKI situation; invading hordes may comprise of mostly ill-prepared small groups of starving desperados - easily defeated by such a combination of coalition and organisation..... from "the group"

You just don't do sarcasm does ya?
If the world goes into meltdown, the preppers will no survive any better than anyone else.
Nukes will be flying everywhere, or worse still chemical or germ warfare will be unleashed without any second thoughts.
Preppers will perhaps survive for a short while, but the world they will be coming out into would not be worth living in.

BaseCamp

Sorry. ...   I missed that one...

You're right - for a total nuke out or germ armageddon; there may be no escape. ...

But there are plenty of other ways it could happen:  total economic collapse; electromagnetic pulse radiation; rogue meteorite; coldare blowing in Yellowstone, or any of the other 6 approx mega volcanoes lurking around the world; etc.....

Millions would still be (sort of) alive /  survive one of these rare; 1 in a million remote events. ..

Incidentally ALL of the above has occurred on Earth before; and all bar one - in our living memory....

I'm just happy to share and stimulate conversation on these subjects; if it helps just one person think about things a little more . ...

My money is on a virus or antibiotic resistant bacteria.

The Spanish flu killed 3-6% of the worlds population

Yes, the Spanish flu killed more people than did the activities of WW1....

THE virus attacked mostly the young, and the elderly. ....   where the blood vessels in the victims' lungs would breakdown - and death followed shortly after; as they drowned in their own blood...

Some people believe that EOTWAWKI will come via the "zombie apocalypse". ..   but I don't believe in zombies. ...   LOL....

By coincidence we have just watched this movie, out there and a bit weird, almost no talking, an Irish / pommy doomsday scenario .

I've seen the original Mad Max film.
All you need is some leathers, some cheesy lines.. push me shove you..
And a blower on you vehicle.
I'll just strap the leaf blower onto the bonnet of the Troll and I'll be sweet.
We could all armour reinforce our campers, but we'd get in trouble for the ball weight.  And it would make the canvas hard to fold.
Always give 100%... Unless you are giving blood.. then it may not go so well...

We did the Mad Max run and visited  all the film locations with a car club

Can you believe UK kids were made to watch this movie in school. I was about 10 or 11 at the time. The full movie full on and brutal in its depictions of post nuclear  holocaust society. Affected me deeply for years.
