The Olymics are multi-billion dollar vanity project by the elites, for the elites and which damn near bankrupts the host country/state. The sooner the world tells the Lords of the Rings to sod-off the better. Spend the outrageous fortune squandered on this circus on getting average kids especially, but Australians generally into sporting and healthy activities instead supporting a pampered group of elite athletes /sarc on: "Sacrificing everything for Australia" /sarc off.

The Olympics really gets my goat, its a privileged, corrupt organization that runs a two week circus once every four years (two if you count the Winter Olympics - now there is a forum to re-introduce nudey runs!), and it's the only thing where even I recognize I come across as a crotchedly old-school socialist as opposed to being a hard-core libertarian LOL. Spend the money instead on kids T-Ball or whatever it takes to reduce the modern child's unhealthy attachment to "screen time".

BaseCamp

I feel sorry for any honest Aussie Olympians - that have their fate for Gold up against Russian and other Government sponsored drug cheats....

Countless thousands of hours or training; and 5am starts etc; over many years; sometimes micro seconds the difference in results; to have your medal robbed by a drug cheat.....

Did anyone watch that exposition about the matter on 4 Corners the other week.....??

You get out and in to the world -- you take more @#&$. ...You climb a little higher, ..you take less @#&$.  ...Till one day -- you're up in the rarefied atmosphere -- and you've forgotten what @#&$ even looks like....  Welcome to the layer cake son.

What is it like its a news flash? Nobody knew the whole thing is a farce full of drug cheats and has been for years, like the tour-de-farce??

Didn't some bloke get his gold medal few weeks ago from the "games" from years ago cause some dude was disqualified for drugs... ???

Nope, but the footy is on tomorrow night.

I'll be watching as much of it as possible.

Take all the politics out of it!   Forget the rubbish that surrounds selections.   The host countries generally win out in the end with the influx of money during the games, and the tourism that results.   And the new facilities they have for years afterwards.

Our young kids train and work for years (generally without pay) to be the best in their sport, and then compete against the best in the world (if they're not too scared to come or already been caught cheating).

Kids learning their sport have heroes they want to be like and a worthy goal to aim towards.

Once the sports start it'll be great!
Manual petrol 105 series 'cruiser.
Aust. trailers semi off road trailer with Southern Cross Canvas tent, water, gas, kitchen and other stuff.

Yep...

My thoughts on the "GAMES" - if they don't make the "GAMES" go back to being amateur only (I can see professionals play world championships all the time), then just open it to druggos.. stop pretending it doesn't exist.
Also some of the ****in sports these days.. Golf? WTF?

Seems I misread the title and jumped on the Olympics bashing thread.

My mistake - carry on.

I'd much rather the world spend $$$ on big sporting events like the olympics over war/killing each other. My two oldest kids compete in little athletics so we'll be watching the track and field events with interest (even if Australia has little chance of winning medals)

Rumpig

Atleast when these Olympics start, when can stop hearing from this Kitty chick on the media all the time...I'm so sick of hearing her name. Can't recall who any of our previous Chef de missions were, but this one is in the news daily.

You don't use magic to disappear, all you need is a 4wd & a Swag ;)

Holy chit!  :o That would be so friggin painful, plus to land and then see ya leg just flop off in any direction it wanted to, ouch.  :(

Foo
So long as you have tried your best, you should have no regrets.

Before the Olympic opening ceremony I didn't have much interest but it is growing. I won't sit glued to the TV though but will probably flick over every now and then to see what's happening.

Just watched a bit of the girl on girl beach volley ball......

Not a bad gap filler, especially the chick in red (fk knows what team) with her undies tucked up nice and high.....

Dunno what the scores were, it was Aussie v another team in red togs.
