 Howdy, Txbum here, we plan to have a holiday rally (camp out) and I plan to take some Australian beers to the gathering.  Will you share your likes , dislikes of the more popular Australian beers with me. We have a package ( Spirits) store named Specs and they seem to have a large variety of imported beers. Looking to bring some Aussie influence to the wind up ( pop up) camper rally. If I may, I would like to share photos of our event with the Myswag group.  Thank ya'all......now where is that Ozpig ...honey dear, have you seen my pig????

One of my favourite readily available Australian beers is Little Creature's Pale Ale.

I'm assuming Txbum, that you come from the Land of The Trump....... and maybe your a Texan?

Well y'all, a frosty cold glass full of Carlton Dry is always nice or a Great Northern comes a close second.
I DON'T CARE HOW NICE THE HAND SOAP SMELLS.....

You should never walk out of the public toilets sniffing your fingers.

Texan by birth, American but not a Trumpian, is that even a word?...Texans love beer.  Just trying to find some great Australian brews with out breaking my bank.....over here we typically view the television commercial Fosters...Australian for beer commercial. Looking for something other than this brand, nothing against them, just trying out new beers.

I like beers from smaller Brewers ( admittedly a large number of these are now owned by the big boys) and may not be readily available in the good ole US of A

I noticed though that James Squire and little creatures are exported, both worth a taste especially James squire 150 lashes.

Others but don't believe exported
White Rabbit both the white and Pale Ale, they have just released a red ale but only in Vic I believe where it is aged in cask like wine.

The Burleigh brewery has some good beer, bighead is their no carb beer.

Feral I enjoy the hop hog, and sly fox

Fosters isn't even made in Australia any more, it is made under license in asia somewhere.
I can be a cranky old bugga so if I offended anyone I apologize, but you probably deserved it.

For a "normal" priced beer I like Coopers Pale or Sparkling Ale.  They are both different to the usual beers as they have sediment in the bottle and a full flavour.  This might put you off but worth a try to see. James Boags Premium is a good normal priced lager.

Higher priced beer, I like Little Creatures Bright Ale but most of their beers are worth drinking

I just had a look at the Specs web site and they seem to stock Coopers even if they call it Canadian it is really made in South Australia  ;D

Fosters is still as always made at CUB in Abbotsford.  It is also made in Queensland.  Overseas it is made under licence, at various breweries. A bit like many "foreign" beers are made here under licence.

Having said that not many Australians drink Fosters and it doesn't represent the typical Aussie beer, which is mostly a draught or bitter. However a lot of other lagers are drunk , mostly "foreign" beers There is also a huge craft beer market in Australia which features Pale Ales.  These are my preferred but the sad part, is the successful ones are usually bought out by the big companies and loose that locally handcrafted taste.

As #jonesy said, made here by CUB.

The OP's Fosters that is marketed in the States as 'Aussie beer' is actually brewed in Texas. All of their marketing leads you to believe it's imported from here.
Only a few months ago Fosters was sued for misleading advertising or some crap because of this. One of my suppliers over there was fuming when he found out. He's been drinking it for years because it's a 'Mans beer.' Reckons it tastes like Shit, is stupidly expensive, but it's good for your image  ::)

He doesn't believe me that no one here drinks the Shit ;D

I was weaned onto xxxx gold - my standard go to box. These days its about the most expensive mid strength in the world so I find myself bringing home cartons of sol and Heineken in protest. It should be cheaper than it is.

For me good aussie beers are:
Little Creatures Pale Ale
Coopers Sparkling Ale
Boags Premium Lager
100 Lashes (150?)
Fat Yak is a newer good one.

But I home brew and rarely buy beer any more.

I believe I'll have another beer.

When we go camping I bring XXXX gold in cans.
Drinks away easily and less waste than bottles.
However I prefer Belgium beer.

A "True" Oz beer still family owned. Most beer companies here are owned by foreign interests.

As my late father in law said "there is no such thing as a bad beer, only some are better than others". Over the years my taste has changed, I drank Carlton Draught, Courage, Richmond Bitter even Ballarat Bertie. These days my preference is for the Tasmanian Beers in winter, in order of preference, Boags Draught, Boags Premium, Cascade Premium then the Cascade Pale Ale. In the warmer weather not much beats a XXXX Gold.

Troopy_03

Mine are similar to most of the previous posters.
Little Creatures Pale Ale (scored 4 cartons at $53.95 each the other day too :-)..)
James Squires Hop Thief (pale ale)
Fat Yak (pale ale)
Gage Roads Narrow Neck (session ale)
James Squires Chancer (golden ale)
For a mid strength, Carlton Mid
if you absolutely have to drink a light, Cascade Premium Light (that's low alcohol beer btw, for you yanks, not low carbs LOL)
4.2L TD Toyota Troopy, (Clarke's Country Camper Trailer, softfloor.) sold it and bought a Avan Ray small poptop caravan.
