Years later I was working for Honda and we'd rent out Mt Cotton for Demo days. I remember getting passed by Daryl Beattie .... I was on an NX650 (with a pillion), he was on a wait for it,,, 250cc scooter and took me on the outside, nothin I could do about it, he was gone.. riding a scooter....
Geez mate, you can honestly claim to have been ahead of one D. Beattie on a race track. Not many can claim that. Congrats & hope all works out with the driving. I've got no answer!

Buy her a scooter - that feeling of no protection around you certainly heightens your awareness of the other risks on the road and makes you observe & anticipate more.

When I was younger (possibly on my L's) and my sister on her P's we were lucky enough to live close enough to DECA and we both went on their 2 day defensive driving course they did on road driving around town and out on country roads.  They also did driving on the track they have there so corners and hills, as well as skidpan practice braking in the wet attempting to simulate ABS with on and off braking.  We also had driving at DECA with school.  The only accident I have ever been involved in was in night road works all traffic stopped I hear screeching behind me and put my foot on the brake got rear ended in a mates car but thankfully with the brake on didn't get pushed into the car in front.  Even at that low speed it totalled the older ladies Suzuki mighty boy pushing the radiator back into the motor.  We did also grow up driving a car up and down our long driveway and reversing to turn around and go back again sure this was straight driving but it taught us to use our mirrors and I think didn't make us quite as silly on the road once we could drive.
