And here is the problem....

http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/2014/02/10/13/47/security-guard-breaks-car-window-to-free-baby

The last line says..... "No charges have been laid against the woman."

And that's where the problem is!

   What a joke. >:(
Lock her in the car and see if she likes it.
A guy gets booked for leaving his window down 5cms and she gets off ???

We sell a couple of spring loaded car window smasher rescue tools on the website (one of them the emergency services carry for just such a thing) which you just press against the glass to shatter it. I wouldn't hesitate to use one if i came across kids locked in a car. If you've ever seen someone try to smash a car window with a stick or rock you realize it's not very easy to do.

fabulous

I think most people with a cargo barrier in their car have a small hammer attached that can be used as well.

As a member of a Rescue Station, we get responded on average to 5 or 6 of these over the summer months, most are accidental lock-in's, but even after all the warnings we still get the FuWit who don't care and leave their kids in the car for the 5-10min run into shops. we don't stuff around, a window gone within 20-30sec of steeping of the truck in most cases.

And Yes here in NSW if you lock your child in the car and it's not accidental, 99.9% of the time they are charged

Just a quick question on this.

When paying for fuel how many people leave a child in the car?

I don't but only have the one 3yr old that is usually busting to come in to pay with me.

No judgement from me, just curious.

My kids have grown up now but we never left the kids in the car unattended at the Servo.

It is very sad. Not quite as bad, we saw unattended kids in a car windows up, hot day...car running!  So nice parents leave the air con on for the kiddies, and keys in the car for anyone to take. Or for the kids to knock it into gear.

I would have no hesitation in the following

Smash a window, attend to child, call Ambo's if required, call police to notify them of my actions, note rego of vehicle while wating for police in case parent attemps to leave before Ambo's or Police arrive. The parent would be one of the later priorities.

You need a licence to drive a vehicle, but anyone can have a kid................

what I don't get is how people "forget" their kids are in the car when they leave it...

we have 27 month old twins, and it's impossible to forget you have them with you ... not to mention we went through 5 years of IVF and a shed load of money to get there (not that that bit is important)

I'm with Beigewagon and others - I'd have no hesitation breaking a window to get to kids that have been left in a car... f@#k the parents - they can answer to the video I'd take before smashing the window...
