Any ideas to deter kids knick knocking ?

My father used to keep his ag bike handy.  When they knocked on the door he'd bolt around to side, hop on it and give chase down the footpath, across parks you name it.  Problem solved pretty quick when a big bloke on a motorbike is after you 

Even had some kids knock off the milk money one night (back when the milkman came each night).  Dad heard the noise on the steps about 3am one morning, looked out, saw the money missing and a couple of kids hightailing out of the front yard.  Straight onto the ag bike in his PJs and tore off down the road at full tilt.  He made quite a profit that night as the little s###ts had done it a few houses.
