Hi,
How many wives out there do the towing? My husband of late has been letting me do the driving when we are on our trips as he has found that he has lost his confidence in driving. Has anyone else had this problem & if so is it just a passing thing with age or am I going to be the permanent driver. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My wife wouldn't want to; she doesn't even like to drive the Cruza.

On long trips we share the driving.

On short trips I drive (mutual decision) and she tells me how to drive and where to go.
Cheers,

Tom.

No she wont tow..
she is a good driver but doesnt like using the trailer.

she is a good woman, everytime we go anywhere I drive, doesnt matter where..
but lately I let her drive me little distances. Like in to vote the other week, she drove..

but I generally do all the driving and towing.

Long trips its shared and depending on shorter trips other half drives...Though any time after 2pm seems to be my leg as he wants to have a drink...unless I have given him heads u[ that I'm not up for doing it all or if its a killer drive over 700km or an off-road area that we both aren't familiar with.

Generally I don't mind towing our camper as its a I can still see it through the back of the Prado and it keeps the back end straight when you hit the odd bull dust, odd occasion reversing it i'm not doing to bad.  But overall he knows the moment I don't feel comfortable car gets stopped and its his turn - no arguments.

Although having said what I said, I had to move 2 cars and campers from darwin to KNX, she drove our car and camper and I drove the other old 4wd, we had one daughter each, and she did very well with that trip..

I make my wife drive as much as possible with the camper in tow, gives her practice on how to tow it.

She never liked to tow before but ive been on her to learn how to do it just incase of an emergency, my teenage son knows how to hook up the trailer so if im ever out of action they can both tow and hook up, shes even getting better at reversing.

Myself personally cannot sit for long periods so my wife has to take over for trips longer then 2 hours, she understands and is very happy to take control.

You could always pull and injury and make your husband do some driving, or find a way to make it fun for him again.

My grandfather drove everywhere, even 6 weeks after a triple bypass and right up till he passed away.

My uncle on the other had makes my aunty drive everywhere and has basically given up on life and everything to go with it so i know what your saying.

He does most of the driving/towing (although that may change now we have new 200). I get bored too quickly and he is not a very good navigator. So it works for us with him driving and me nav.

I do all the reversing of camper / boat etc.

I'm hopeless behind the wheel - after an hour my eyes are already droopy!!  My wife knows the signs now so when they come she kicks me out and takes over!

She reverses when hooking up - only because my instructions can be followed whereas hers lead to an argument!!

I do the bulk of the driving but my wife does her share on longer trips. just recently we got caught in thunderstorms and flash flooding heading across the Gunbarrel highway and the missus had the time of her life towing through the mud and the floods.

She has had to tow a couple of times I have been crook or injured, so it's good she knows how!

Reversing the trailer is another story though.

Cheers Andrew

I tend to do most of the driving, mainly cos I enjoy it.
On long trips we will swap every so often, and she has no problems with towing the CT. It doesn't give me much rest though as I'm a bit of a nervous passenger (read: likes to be in control!!) ;D

We share drive, makes it safer for us and we can do long distances in a day if required without too much fatigue.  Its also handy if one gets sick to have two drivers.  A person I knew got very sick the other side of the country and the car and van had to be freighted back at an enormous cost as the wife couldnt tow.

I mainly do the driving due to Jan having a crook right leg, which is why we now have autos, so if need be Jan can drive.

We share drives on long run, swap every 2 hours and makes traveling easy. Wife always reverses when hooking up, no more miss directions and i can push towbar to put pin in. Funny how you change little things but it makes life less stressful.

I'm the worlds worst passenger so I do all the driving.

I enjoy doing the driving and my wife enjoys being the passenger so that works for us :)

She is allowed to drive when we go out and I 'have' to drink, I'm generous like that but it doesn't improve my passenger skills when I've been drinking ;)

We share the driving on long trips but my partner drives the most.  If I am not driving then I am usually reading or asleep which the sleeping part is good if you are doing long trips then you can rest then drive.  I will back the trailer and prefer to have assistance outside of the car giving directions if it is a smaller space.  Towing it doesn't bother me but I will tow the horse float too so used to that.  This works well for us not sure on tips maybe just asking if he can do some short stints in the car so you can get your eyes off the road for 20 mins for a power nap see if that gets the confidence up again.

Jon usually does the towing, but we share on long trips.

Before I met Jon, I was used to towing a larg 3 horse angle float long distances with my daughters and their horses for comps etc, so towing an Eagle is no real biggie for me. I averaged a couple of trips a week towing horses to lessons, comps etc. Nothing beats towing a stroppy horse around  :-[

As an aside, my daughter learnt to do a 3 point turn with the manual landcruiser and horse float on the back before she even had her L's. She also learnt to back the float into it's parking spot. Now she's confident to drive anything!

I do most the driving. My wife is good driver and have full confidence in her ability. But I get bored sitting in the passenger seat.
I also made sure she was able to drive for safety reasons.
Never ending.
